Will The Boxing World Miss Calzaghe In Retirement?

No not really ..

 

word.... i dont even care to be honest...

he didnt put on amazing shows
and i never really felt that he was going to fight anyone slightly relevant (dawson-jt-pavlik)

thats why I always said he should have just retired... its just irrelevant to me atleast

 

Not me. I can't say I've seen one of his fights outside the Byron Mitchell one that was exciting and pulse racing sort of stuff.

He can fight, he will leave an admirable legacy nehind, but he's had a great career - Just not an all time great career. Good on him for retiring with his marbles and some pounds in the bank.

 

yeah i mean good for him he definitely did his thing.... but its not like he was putting on amazing shows in or outside the ring

 

Though I became a fan of his after the Mitchell fight I never really thought he was all that exciting ..I enjoyed his fights but was never like man I can't wait to see his next fight like I was for a Leonard or Jones ..Though his skill was amazing it didn't have me clamoring for more ..

 

I would have enjoyed watching him push himself alot further than he did. But I won't particuarly miss seeing Calzaghe the fighter. He sacrficed the artform to a tremendous degree whenever it suited him. The slaps and caveman stuff wasn't my cup of tea.

 

I always thought he was a exceptional fighter. One to learn a greate deal from. Not very many people are as flexable in there techniques and able to run the punches in the angles he put them in. It takes a good eye to be able to do that.

 

He was a great fighter but I doubt too many people will miss him, boxers who are missed tend to be fighters who create drama and excitment in the ring, guys who produce KO's, Calzaghe wasn't that type of fighter.

 

Sure, I have enjoyed watching him fight.

For being purely a slapper he busted up Roy pretty good.

Too bad he didn't do **** to establish a legacy earlier, I think he is a special fighter but he doesn't really have the resume to back it up.

 

I thought so too to some extent, until I saw him in against operators like Hopkins and Jones, the only elite fighters on his record. Calzaghe basically hunted-and-pecked his way through those fights. And this is despite the obvious fact that neither of those geezers gave a helluva lotta resistance, had much legs, or fast twitch left in them. It's hard for me personally to imagine Calzaghe beating any of the great fighters around his weight class prime for prime.

 

He may not have been the best but I will miss him. I enjoyed watching him win, and he seems to be a nice guy. The Jeff lacy clinic is what sold me on Calzaghe, I give the man his just due and I think boxing has lost a small yet important piece of the sport.

 

"Miss Calzaghe"? Tell me you did that on purpose. Please...... Missy Cal. I like the ring of it.....

Not at all. JC was a good fighter but not an ATG. He simply waited to late to fight elite fighters. Everyone knows that the best fighters compete in the United States, so you have to come here to fight the best and JC didn't do that in his prime when he could have fought a prime RJ and a prime B-Hop (although B-Hop isn't a shot fighter like Jones) so I do give JC some credit there.

How would an American soccer team look claiming that they were an ATG team when they never played in Europe or only played two matches in Europe and defeated a injury riddled Real Madrid and a short handed DC United team? Well that's exactly what JC did and that's why he won't be missed.

 

nah. I didnt mind him as a fighter but the whole "boxing is dead" talk pissed me off
