I'd like this to be a decent debate/discussion, so I'm not going to bother posting a list because all that happens in that instance is that people focus on disagreeing with it rather than putting forward their own suggestions (plus a best resume list is a very very subjective and difficult thing to do IMO and I don't have time to think it through thoroughly on my own, I'm bored at work just now and think this could be a very interesting thread!).

However, there are a couple of fighters who spring to mind immediately for this list and who I will propose just now for definite inclusion:

    - HARRY GREB
    - SAM LANGFORD
    - ARCHIE MOORE
    - EZZARD CHARLES

And there are others I will put up for consideration as they are guys I believe are legitimate contenders:

    - SUGAR RAY ROBINSON
    - MUHAMMAD ALI
    - CHARLEY BURLEY
    - JOE GANS

Let's make a Classic Forum Top Ten Resumes Of All-Time!

    All opinions/comments welcome!

    :bbb

PS: I know his name will come up, but I am vetoing mention of Sugar Ray Leonard right now. His resume is not deep enough to merit inclusion. JMHO.

In my eyes, that does rule him out of a top 10. I am a monster Duran fan, he is my favourite fighter in history and I view him as #7 p4p in history and one of the very best h2h in history, AND I think his win over Leonard was the best win ever, but I don't think he quite makes the top 10 resumes ever. Duran's best wins are Buchanan, deJesus, Leonard, Cuevas, Moore, Barkley... For me, this pales in comparison to some of those I mentioned in the TS, even though it is a great resume (if only he had fought Cervantes, Pryor etc). I think Ali's resume is better, if we're talking the last 50 years.

Maybe not best in history, but he fought the best his division had to offer more or less, and the best of his time werent always bad..

Tough. This is a group project, and your opinion only counts as one vote. If SRL's name comes it, it gets discussed whether you like it or not.

Having stated that in my above post, I think fighters like Fritzie Zivic, Homan Williams, Lloyd Marshall, Kid Gavilan, Emile Griffith, Joe Gans, and Henry Armstrong would also warrant discussion, too.

Going strictly by how many quality names appear on the resume, then Joe Grim might have this category locked.

Still, Leonard's resume was pretty deep given the limited number of fights that he had.

Yes, I suppose that's true enough. I will vehemently disagree, but if I am outvoted then so be it, this is indeed intended to be a group project.

Pretty deep given the limited number of fights that he had is not the same as pretty deep. The list is not for who concentrated a small number of best wins into a brief resume best, it is for best resume. One win over Benitez, one win over Duran, one win over Hearns, one win over Hagler. Four incredible wins, but there is not much else on that resume. IMO, 4 wins is simply not enough to merit inclusion in THE top 10 resumes in all of history.

This thread is asking for the best in history though, the ten best. I am a Lennox fan, but he does not even come close to an all-time top 10, not even close at all IMO.

Let's factor in wins over Ayub Kalule, Donny Lalonde, and pretty nice run over a solid selection of welterweight contenders on the way up (Ranzany, Shields, Price, Muniz, Mayweather, Chivairini, and Gant were all legitimate Top 10 contenders.) That's pretty solid work throughout the course of his career. For the record, he doesn't make my Top 10 resumes of all time, but in terms of quality/quantity ratio, it's still very good.
