The golden age of Benn, Eubank & Collins was followed by Calzaghe who was better than the lot. If we all now get behind Froch, how we we rate him against the following: - Kessler - Hopkins - Pavlik All potential superfights and the boy may surprise us Nathan Cleverly is currently on the standard Frank Warren route as Commonwealth champ, and appears ahead of schedule. A British title should follow soon, and who knows Wales may have a star to share headline billing with Enzo.
I think he'd lose all of them. His best chance would be against Pavlik, because he's easy to hit and has been hurt a few times. That said, Pavlik is more skilled than Froch overall, if Froch took as many from Pavlik as he did from Pascal he'd be in trouble.
I think Hopkins would school Froch in the most extreme way possible. Kessler would brutalize him. He might have a chance against Pavlik, but I would still consider Froch the significant underdog.
Haye, Mitchell, Froch, Cleverly, Fury, DeGale, Groves, Khan. one of these will make big impact over the next 5 years.
Its easy to assume Froch will take over from where Joe left off but in reality that would be asking too much. Currently the division is reasonbly competitive, and I wouldnt give him too much hope against Kessler. Pavlik would be a very good fight, as his limitations have been proven, but he would have to improve defence as Kelly can bang.
The thread is specific: 1. Froch is the apparent heir to the crown - Will he suceed as Joe followed Benn, Eubank, Collins etc? 2. Cleverly - the new Welsh hope at the same weight as Joe finished his career
What you think Cleve will stay @ commonwealth level his entire career ? personally i think due to his age its a tad early to be judgemental on his career as its very early doors yet .
Froch is not the future. One, he is limited, unproven, and will get schooled by any of the elite at 175/168. Two, he is in his thirties, and wont improve so....plus he aint got exposure here let alone stateside, and wont get the big fights, and if he does, he gets beat - starting with JT. We are pretty ****ed really. Hatton could reinvigorate his career and British boxing with a win over Pac, but it aint likely, he will probably get retired. Similair scenario with Haye I fear. He has a superfight looming, but he HAS to win that to go forward, and he is a big underdog. If he does beat Wlad, I guess he will stir up a lot of hype and interest over here, it would be great....but there is only one other superfight available for him, ie Vitali, and I reckon if he somehow pulls out the two wins there (very speculative) he will retire anyway. Froch wont do much, Khan might, dunno.....but I fear we will have to wait a few years until we get a truly elite star who is here to stay.
