True say. resume does count and also the way you beat the guys. jones is held quite high ATG status becuz he used to near enough destroy every1 he fought.
15 championship fights won minimum ... Maintain a good streak ... 80% winning percentage I think that guys no matter what era who have won more than 15 championship fights is amazing.
Jones Toney was another element in his prime, a defensive genius, never been knocked down i dont think, il look that 1 up, but Toney vs calzaghe both in the primes would of been a great contest
Jones lost to Griffin by DQ, and then Knocked him out in less than a round in the Rematch. Loses to Tarver, Johnson and Calzaghe came when he was past Prime. His win against Toney is his best and stands out above any of Calzaghe's wins, Blowout win over Past his Prime McCallum and also his terrific Knockout of Virgil Hill and a win over a Green Hopkins. Won Title's at Middleweight, Super Middleweight, Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight and is at 38 on my top 100 list, while many would actually rate him higher.
thanks i was just curious, but his competition wasent matched to his skill level were they, (dont think thats jones fault) he never really erm defended his title against any of the best fighters at heavy, or super middle, or middle weight, his best win was toney, and hopkins but other than that, no real HOF names other than Trinidad but cant count that,I think Jones gets in because of his skill, He was a spark in boxing which hadnt been seen since the leonard, duran era, my opinion of course
But if you are going to discredit Jones' win over Trinidad then you have to discredit Calzaghe's win over Hopkins, which just happens to be his most significant win.
How can i discredit that win hopkins is still active, trinidad wernt, Hopkins was the ring magazine light heavyweight champ and still a Top 10 p4p fighter, Trinidad wasnt ranked by any1
not to mention Jones was one of the biggest cherry pickers in the History of the sport. They guy handpicked just about all of his opponents.
He beat more future champions than anyone active in the sport today. If thats cherry picking then I wish more fighters would cherry pick.
