Tarver was beaten by Jones in their first encounter. Albeit an unmotivated Jones. His decline happened during that fight. Jones only began to lose when his skills faded, much like Ali and any ATG. His accomplishments came when he was able to motivate himself above his opposition. JC is good. He deserves credit for his work, Joe will go down in history as an awesome boxer. Jones Jr. will go down in his for being a great athlete who also boxed. Much like Jordan, Ali and Tiger are bigger than their areas of expertise.

Don't forget all the other top 10 LHW's that RJJ beat? Who went on to win titles like Gonalez (beat past it but still good DM), Woods, Harding, Hall etc etc (those guys are better than a lot of Calzaghe wins, better than Lacy and done more than Lacy) Don't forget Virgil hill won the CW title, although older at that time and loss to JMM.

    Because he achieved more.

But Toney wasnt prime, dunno why people keep insisting he was.

He spent his last 4 fights prior to it fluctuating between weights giving poor performances which he carried on in the Jones fight, and after, losing straight away and going on to do precisely **** all for 9 years.

Don't you think GOnzalez should be mentioned in there too for Jones? Jones was a heavy foavrotie but only because he was so good. GOnzlaez was a very good undefeated big puncher who later went on to beat DM in germany.

He gave a hell of a performance against Barkley (which he won the SMW title), probably one of the best performances of his career. Went on to give some great performances against the likes of Tim Littles, Charles Williams and many others. T

You are in the minority -- he was weight drained, but not out of his prime. There is no real basis for that assessment seeing as though he beat some very good fighters in spectacular fashion right before the Jones fight... Toney has had lackluster performances prior to winning the MW title and some fights at MW. I think you confuse being inconsistent with being out of ones prime, Toney could be inconsistent as evident in his career (and the fact that he had a great comeback) and Jones had the style to exploit everything.

But you are entitled to your opinion. :good

Yes 18 months and 11 fights before the Jones fight he looked good beating Barkley.

Not as good as the Nunn,McCallum,Johnson fights though. Or even deWitt. His prime.

The Littles and Williams fights were NOT great performances. Neither were Hembrick and Durham.

Or losing to a green Griffin, and doing nothing for 9 years.

    How is that his prime.

So what youre saying is he was inconsistent(But Prime) for 18 months, then he was prime for Jones, then he was inconsistent(But prime) again for 9 years til Jirov.

    That is special.

What about Jones jnrs post fight drug test aginst Hall:hey

Does this discredit any of his victories as people are saying the same about Mosley:think

Having said that Jones has a better record and his achievements are better, although Calzaghe is very underated by the people who champion Hopkins record and dont want to give the guy (Calzaghe) any credit.

Lol ripped fuel which you could merely just buy at GNC. Funny thing about that is, this was the only concrete time that any such things were found in his system. And Hall tested positive for the same fight!

Shane Mosley did something far worst, Jones just took an over the counter thing. This is what Shane did..

Jones has the better resume by not by much. Both men fought some great opposition but also avoided great opposition. The main reason why Calzaghe's resume is close to being as good as Jone's is because Jone's has 5 losses on his record, Joe has 0 and that means something. If Calzaghe dropped a few fights to other big names then ok Jones has the far better resume. I give an edge to Jones but not a big one. I give Jones' career a 9.0 and Calzaghes an 8.5. (Ray Robinson, Muhammad Ali, Joe Louis, Marvin Hagler all have 9.5 - 10 for examples).

Those were great performances imo (but fights are subjective!) -- he hurt Williams repeatedly throughout the fight and closed the show. Williams had just won the WBC title and he was a good fighter. And the Littles fight was competitive, but Tim Littles was a good fighter and Toney KO'D him in the 4th round. Your argument is pretty baseless. Sorry :good

Prior to fighting Nunn people didn't think Toney was that great because he was inconsistent in his past fights.

Inconsistency does not mean out of your prime :good

And that is one of Toney's flaws, is that he could be inconsistent. This is all established and known by boxing fans, only you call it out of prime :good

They were nowhere near great performances. Have you seen them?.

How are they compareable to his performances against Nunn etc, his prime.

It was the WBC Continental Americas LH Title. Awesome. He was a career LH coming down to SMW. He was not good. He went 12 with THAT Toney.

Littles was decent and had a good win over Liles, which liles put right empthatically.

Thats is not the form of the same man who beat Nunn. Not even close.
