Like it or not, in legacy terms, Calzaghe's '0' matters a lot. I wouldn't rank Ottke anywhere, because I don't have the knowledge to make a ATG list, so I can only offer opinions on the placings for fighters which I am familar with. If you are comparing Hatton and Calzaghe, it would be idiotic to ignore the fact Calzaghe retired unbeaten, especially when Hatton spent a hell of a long time defending an even more meaningless belt against bums, just like Calzaghe did.
Youre right Hatton did defend his WBU belt against poor opposition BUT.... He stepped it up once he got a name for himself.
That's where you're greatly wrong my friend. Otke retired with a (0) loss record yet he is not in any ones inclination to an ATG status... How come???...
What are Cal and Ottke twins with the same record? Because if you are using this kind of reasoning, and simple minded thinking, then why would anyone want to answer your special question lol...!!!??? @#$%^ does Ottke have to do with Cal? Cal practically went to the man's home to ask for a fight, and Ottke declined.
Yes, ATG. But is close, probably between 80-100 ATG. Skillwise, he was never a very special of a fighter but his longivity and consitency are exceptional. I rank him behind Hopkins, Toney and Jones though.
Why is Sven Ottke being brought into a conversation about Hatton/Calzaghe? :huh Ottke didn't unify the super-middleweight divsion, he didn't move up to LH and beat two legends. Its debatable whether or not Calzaghe is an ATG. It's not debatable whether Ottke is - he clearly isn't an ATG, and he doesn't have half the achivments that Calzaghe does, on top of that '0' which they both share. Again, Ottke has nothing to do with comparing Hatton and Calzaghe, NOTHING!
I rank him between 80-100 ATG, so I am pretty much in the same line as you. Keep in mind that ATG lists generally include 100 and not 50 fighters. This is how the Ring magazine did it. As for his record, you state that Calzaghe only had 2 outstanding wins in Kessler and Hopkins. I agree again, but I rank his longivity, consistency, unbeaten record and solid competition against the likes of Brewer, Mitchell, Eubank ... also high. He was around quite a long time.
Because you are putting too much emphasis to JC's unbeaten record which shouldn't be the case... JC's unbeaten record is kuput due to his 9 years of being under WBO. Any fighter worth his while would have atleast made WBO a stepping stone into a more productive reign inthe more acknolwedge boxing bodies...
That's a point of contention regarding JC's unbeaten record which is academically shallow or narrow minded in stature...
I don't see the logic of suggesting that Calzaghe can't be an ATG, because Ottke isn't either. Calzaghe achived a lot more than Ottke did. Ottke had he '0', just like Calzaghe did, but Calzaghe was undisputed at 168, moved up a weight and beat two legends. He also has a better resume.
True, and I give Hatton all the credit in the world, he isn't afraid of the big fights against the best opponents, but he did have that Calzaghe-esque mindset for quite a while as well.
