Carl Froch to face Jermain Taylor in first WBC defence

Carl Froch's first defence of the World Boxing Council supermiddleweight title will be confirmed within the next 48 hours.

Sources from within the Nottingham boxer's camp suggest his opponent will be the American Jermain Taylor, the former undisputed world middleweight champion, in the United States.
Mick Hennessy, Froch's promoter, told Telegraph Sport last night that the contest, pitching the title holder against the mandatory challenger, "is set to take place either on April 18 or April 25, either in New York, at Madison Square Garden or in Florida."
Froch, unbeaten in 24 fights, the last in December, a 12-round gladiatorial battle against Jean Pascal of Canada earning the 30 year old British fighter the prestigious WBC 168lb belt vacated by Joe Calzaghe.
Froch is relishing the prospect of facing Taylor, who is the mandatory challenger following a unanimous decision over Jeff Lacy last November, and has claimed that the American is running scared.
He said: "I'm hearing that it's looking very promising but they'll probably still need to drag Taylor to the ring kicking and screaming because I don't think he wants any part of me."
Taylor (28-2-1, 17 KOs) recently spoke out on Joe Calzaghe's retirement and claimed Froch could not be mentioned in the same breath as the undefeated Welshman.
"Joe would probably have tapped and slapped his way to a boring points win but I guarantee you, I will smoke Taylor's boots and destroy him," said Froch.
"He did get one thing right though when he said that I'm no Joe Calzaghe. That's certainly true. When Calzaghe won a version of the world title it took him 10 and a half years to fight in the US and 44 fights before he won the title that I now hold."

The only thing Froch is KOing is my ears with the sounds of his inane ranting.

Taylor by TKO, or possibly a shutout. Depends how much of a beating the ref will let Froch take.

Taylor has a plastic heart and will break mentally when Froch takes him in to the trenches.

Really hope this goes ahead, these are the kind of fights boxing needs. Hopefully this really gets the wheels spinning towards finding out who the real man is at SMW.

Taylor is so much better why is he avoiding his mandatory opportunity for the WBC belt and trying to fight Allen Green?

I watched one segment of Seinfeld and you were able to quote me twice in that time? Did I hurt your feelings? Froch has never been in there with anyone like Taylor, I know he lost twice to Pavlik but he is a class above Froch. Don't forget the man beat Bernard Hopkins twice.

How do you figure he's avoiding it if he's about to sign the fight?

The hold-up has been Froch, he's accepting the same deal that DiBella offered back in December.

Taylor is going to have to deal with SMW power now. He got put down by a glancing shot from Lacy so I am thinking Froch is going to bust him up with his big shots.
