That's the only logical conclusion that can be drawn. :D

That, or we'll have to start wondering if JuanMa's been touching the "clear and the cream"...:think

The Izzy from the trilogy smashes the JuanMa from the PDL fight onward in a fair fight. :nod

Any fighter that can throw straight punches against Vic has a great chance of winning ... he's wild, unorthodox, and only has the left hand.

If Izzy's clearly himself and Lopez beats him in an eleven or twelve round war, I'll give him his due props. :good

When have we seen Juan Ma even tested? We haven't. Izzy has proven he's a great fighter under adversity and Juan Ma is just a prospect. Big difference. How is Juan Ma gonna react when Izzy starts whacking him? We don't know. We do know, however, how tough Izzy is and that he's capable of coming off the canvas and winning. Can't say that about Juan Ma.

Like Intentional said they can be considered pretty close in a H2H sense.

Cotto is the better boxer in my eyes and better skills, better speed and comparable power.

But his durability has had question marks for a long time and against Tony it proved to be not so good, not as good as his other attributes...Thats where Izzy closes the gap because he is certainly much more proven in this aspect.

Larios was the most well known champ but you couldnt conclusively say he was the dominating 122 champ..He would have been considered no1 because he held a win over another titlist at the time but there were two other champs around at the time other than Izzy and Oscar that could have claimed they were the best at the time. He was far from undisputed at the time and he hadnt dominated anything, he had just laboured through 22 rounds with an ancient McCullough.

I could pick apart Izzy's resume and put some of the fights into context but I dont want to do that and make it look like Im having a go. Im just trying to show you my perspective on it. This is the way I feel about him and I know several that agree. Put him on a level playing field with Calzaghe, Pac, JMM, Mosley, Dawson, Calderon, Mayweather and maybe even Vic and I say he gets beaten by all clearly.
Put him up against the greats of his division(which is relatively young and lacking in depth) like Fenech, MAB, Morales, Pintor, Zaragoza, Gomez, Vasquez, Bungu etc he more than likely gets pasted badly by all.

Thats all Im really trying to say here not whether he deserves his ranking..he has well and truly earnt it..I just think he is the same guy he was..Solid overall, with exceptional power and durability but not on the level of most of the guys mentioned.

And dont spin my words around..I never said Vazquez was mediocre at all, I just said he was only a slightly above average titlist not long ago and most people considered him to be that.
He pulls off a few unexpected wins and deservedly gets praise for it but I dont any much of an improvement overall from a few years ago, he is just the same guy who made the most of his talent.

I don't think they're comparable because Izzy beat the best in his division 2 out of the 3 times he fought him. Cotto can't make that claim. And, look at the skill disparity between their two toughest opponents-Margarito and Rafa. Rafael is one of the most skilled boxers in the sport and Izzy beat him twice. Margarito isn't even close to being a top-skilled boxer yet Cotto still lost to him. Cotto threw everything but the kitchen sink at him yet still lost. I think if anything, that proves that Cotto is NOT as skilled as Vazquez.

So, you think Cotto losing to Margo somehow makes him more skilled than Vazquez beating one of the best boxers in the sport?

I'm agreeing with you. Cotto has never been as skilled as Vazquez.
