In terms of boxing achievements, Lewis by far If it was a popularity contest, Tyson had a much bigger impact on the sport than Lewis
Not sure if many people would agree with you on that (see the recent Lewis's chin thread for evidence).
Just to confirm i was speaking about legacy from a boxing achievement standpoint rather than world wide fame but you are all making valid points in regards to legacy
Tyson is definatly more popular and probably dominates in memoribillia, i guess the real question is what makes a legacy?
Legacy is an odd word to use but yeah I guess this goes back to record above 'legendary status' right? Lewis easy then, who was more popular and an inspiration? And more entertaining - Tyson easy
Doesnt matter, Tyson is still the youngest ever HWT champ even if he beat Michael Jackson. Also... how do you know a 20 yr old Lennox would have learned enough to beat Berbick ? We dont know that, only Tyson at 20 has shown he could do that, no HWT ever did it.
For me this poll is a joke. Lewis is #3 greatest HW of all time, only next to Ali and Louis. His level of opposition is only 2nd to Ali. Tyson's opposition is decent but not on Lewis' level. And Tyson is at the tail end of my top 10 list, prolly somewhere around 9 or 10.
Oh dear atsch Aren't you also the dipstick that said Taylor has a better legacy than Calzaghe? Tysons Era stronger than Lewis's? s'pose the likes of Berbick are above the likes of Tua, Holyfield, Vit Klit, Grant ect ? :-( Is it just any fighter that fights with the union jack on his shorts that you have a problem with?
Zemo... Tyson dominated one of the weakest crops of Heavyweights EVER which is why Tyson fans always argue how great Tyson COULD have been because he never really proved it against any elite competition in his prime/pre prison
Clearly know your stuff if that is the best you can come back with. Tyson would love to have the names Lewis has on his record. Tysons Most notable WINS: Berbick Smith Thomas Tucker Ruddock Holmes Tubbs Spinks Bruno Seldon Botha Golota Lewis's most notable WINS: Holyfield Klitchko Tua Ruddock Bruno Rahman Mercer Briggs Tucker Tyson Grant Golota Morrison Mccall Now i don't know about you but i think that bottom list is a lot better than the top one. So much so i didn't feel the need to also add Botha to Lewis's list
People will remember Tyson but not for the good but rather the bad side of boxing. As much as I was a fan of Tyson and a hater of Lewis, I'd be crazy to say that Tyson would have the better legacy. I voted Lewis...
