FRIDAY the 13th can't be unlucky for Motherwell's Barry Morrison or else it could be curtains for his career. The former British light-welterweight champion has been handed a shot at the title out of the blue on March 13 in England against defending champ Paul McCloskey. And Morrison's manager Tommy Gilmour has told his fighter this is the last throw of the dice if he wants to have a meaningful end to his professional career. Morrison became British champion by beating Lenny Dawes in January, 2007, four years after turning professional. But Gilmour said: "Barry came to a halt because he stopped improving in the ring and turned into an underachiever. "I thought the sky was the limit for him when he started out but fortunes can change quickly in boxing. "People in the game might be shocked to find I've managed to get Barry a crack at the British title at this stage of his career but sometimes it's about who you know and the length of experience you've had in the sport. "I've reminded Barry that it's now or never for him because this chance is unlikely ever to come round again. There's only so much I can do for him before he has to help himself. "Barry knows he can't allow Friday the 13th to turn into a horror story next month. Superstition has to come a poor second to ambition on the night."
cuts healed ok, baz is buzzin about this, he's stayed in the gym over xmas and new year, and tipped the scales at 10 6 on friday last week, so he's on track. tough fight this for barry, but one he'll do well in
All depends if he can cope with McCloskey's unorthodox style, He'll also be brimming with confidence after beating Colin Lynes. I wish him all the best it should be a good fight.
i htought the last fight agains barnes ,oor Barry fought ok,just didnae seem to get out of second gear.i hope he does well in this one,its a tough fingt mind you i think paul appleby is figthing on the the undercard,a wee warm up.
yep, the last 2 rounds in the barnes fight were crucial, i thought, when i watched it again i couldnt split them at the end if applebys on the show then all good, it'll be another scottish invasion, and i'm already thinkin it would be some weekend in that liverpool- manchester area, seein that the khan vs barrera show is the same weekend, on the saturday night. :bbb
I think he's gonna find it tough like Lynes did. Morrison is a good all-round fighter, but its a very difficult style to translate to fighting McCloskey. He should show more heart, and hopefully he'll put more pressure on McCloskey than Lynes. Hope for a good fight anyway.
