That was Holyfield in his 12th proffesional fight against a seasoned tough, durable, and smart Qawi..... ......Qawi was a tremendous fighter who's style is reminicent of Joe Frazier who gave Ali fits....... An inexperienced Holyfield beat Qawi and then a year or so later having gone through the experience, absolutely dismantled and completely destroyed Qawi in a rematch KO! After the first fight with Qawi, Holyfield was unstoppable at 190 lbs. Jones is unproven past 175 lbs, and there is no reason to believe he'd even compete with the best Cruiserweight in the history of the sport. Holyfield by brutal stoppage!!!
Qawi was a great LH. He was decisively beaten by Spinks so decided to move up to cruiser. Qawi should never have been a cruiser. The rematch was quite even till the till the KDs so he wasnt destroyed as you have said. Roy beat a guy with one of the best recent resumes at Heavy and a guy few look good against and did it decisively, so yes he did prove he could go past 175. I recall Ruiz was expected to brutally KO him too. Holy may well be the greatest cruiser and as i said i would make him a favourite, but no way am i not giving Roy a chance in this
Decisively beaten by Spinks? .....in a 15 round fight, Spinks won by a 3 point disparity on two cards and a 4 point disparity on the third card....... The fight was competitive enough to merit that a scheduled rematch was made not long after they fought...... ......the rematch was canceled on the day of the fight when Qawi failed to make weight....... ......the reason why Qawi jumped to Cruiser was that he could'nt make 175 lbs......
Evander was great at this weight once he got by Qawi the first time. He went 15 with Qawi in 1986, but then in the rematch stopped him in 4. Roy would be demolished by Evander at this weight. His chin would not hold up.
Roy Jones would outpoint and frustrate Holy. Albeit after taking some vicious shots ...his ability to slip shots and counter would have to come into play , but like the question stated both are prime, Jones in his Prime was almost Alien ..hahaha. So i say Jones by split decision
i love Roy, one of my favorites all-time, but Holyfield is just too big and too strong for Roy at 190lbs.
Shaolin, I am talking off the topic here, when is that picture of Fernando Vargas. Wow he is big there.
duuuude. vargas is 5'10' so he is easily 200+ there. anyway....glen johnson is a no pot to **** in, welfare-broke man's holy. look how bad he mauled roy. intangibles aside, holy woulda smashed him, primes or not.
Unlikely. Though this is Roy we're talking about, a prime Roy had a chance against anybody. Holyfield is the best cruiser of all-time though, he stopped Roy within 10 rounds.
I'm a huge fan of both but I gotta go with Holyfield. One thing we know is that no way Jones is knocking Holyfield out. So if Jones wins it's on points. Holyfield could certainly knock Jones out as I don't think Jones would be able to keep him away for the entire fight and Holyfield has the power and determination to do it. So I'd pick Holyfield to win via KO or TKO, but if it did go to the cards..then it could be close, it would depend on whether or not Jones was able to move during the fight as opposed to being backed up against the ropes. If it's the former, Jones could conceivably win a decision, if it's the later, he either gets KO'd or losses on the cards. Interesting match up. My first inclination was to just say Holyfield by brutual KO, but there's other possible outcomes.
