Best examples of "textbook" fighters schooling unorthodox fighters.

Pavlik isn't unorthodox. He works behind his jab and shoots the one-two at nearly every opportunity.

 

Isn't the term "unorthodox" limited to only a very few fighters? To be this, you would have to possess some special qualities like reflexes, hand speed, foot speed or combination of some or all of them right? When i think of "unorthodox" i can't think of too many. RJ, Hamed, Pacman, Augustus, Sergio Martinez, etc.

Am i wrong here? Who else is "unorthodox"?

 

I like the Donaire over Darchinyan pick. Straight, sharp punches and classic footwork beating one of the most bizarre styles in recent memory.

 

Some of you people that are tossing around names of so-called unorthodox fighters are completely lost. Pavlik is so conventional it hurts. Judah is far from unorthodox, he's a very slick boxer. His skills are sublime. If only he had the mental fortitude to fight more than four rounds. Don't forget Judah was outboxing Mayweather the boxing maestro for the first four rounds.

Donaire v Darchniyan and Hamed v Barrera are the most obvious recent examples. Tarver over Jones doesn't really count I spose cos' it wasn't a schooling as such just one good left hook. Calzaghe over Jones doesn't count cos they're both fairly unorthodox and RJJ was shot.

MAB has a brillant offence. Arguably the best ever. I'm talking purely in terms of hitting you with so many punches from so many angles and in combination. He will lure you in and with such subtle defensive moves then mount a huge attack. The way he catches a punch or rolls with a shot and then counters is almost like a better version of Joe Louis minus a bit of technique and power. I love it.

I ordered Barrera career DVD a few months back and after getting through the whole thing, I couldn't help but admire his offensive capabilities. I think it is most notable during his time at 122lb, where he would open up and sometimes his flurries would be like a blur. He was once described by Jim as being one of most accurate punchers in the sport, and in the Salud fight his punch variety was raved about by both Merchant and Steward. He seamlessly mixed it to the body of head, with every shot having a lot of snap and venom in it. It was beautiful to watch.

George Foreman said during the Croft fight, "If you want to learn about Boxing, you look up Barrera". He was absolutely right. He showcased his entire offensive arsenal in that fight, and Croft was out-matched, *********, an d out-punched from opening bell to when he finally was stopped.

If I had to draw up a top 10 list of offensive fighters of the last 20 years, Barrera would be in the top 5, easily.

If anything Mayweather is more unorthodox than Judah.
