Funny, because I thought I was being generous: I am rating Froch as high as I am/in the top 10 at all, mostly on his perceived ability and only to a small extent on level of performance, because everyone else on my list has beaten better opposition than him, and performed more impressively recently/at their best...Also, when I'm thinking of Froch head to head against Balzsay, say, I'm picking Balzsay to beat Froch...so...I can't rank him higher than that.:conf
I wouldn't say Bika has beaten better opposition. Fought better opposition maybe. I rated him high on the fact he's been competitive with the best. Neither has Balzsay or Inkin, in truth. They've fought each other, but nobody notably better than Pascal I wouldn't say. Holding a belt helps, also. Froch is a big part of the landscape of this division.
Bika I'm picking over him on level of performance and head to head. Inkin's beaten Veit. Also, on level of performance he's better than Froch, just about...but I was generous to Froch and Froch's still unbeaten. Balzsay's beaten Inkin, who's much more proven than Pascal. Froch is a big part of the SMW landscape, for sure. If he beats Taylor in a good performance, he jumps to 2 in my book...but belts in themselves don't cut it for me, except to the extent that they motivate better performances from the opponent...which I've taken into account.
Veit? I'm not even convinced Veit at that stage was a better win than Brian Magee! Zuniga also has done absolutely nothing at 168, and hes one of Inkin's best wins.. There is nothing here notably, and that is the keyword, better than beating Pascal. This is like splitting hairs, but Froch at least has the WBC belt, and I certainly do not agree that these two fair that well H2H against Froch. I think the more static styles of these two would work out well for him to unload his slow bombs. Froch being in a position to fight Taylor tells a lot about his standing in the division compared to Inkin or Balzsay.
:huh ...tells about his promoter, his nationality, number of fans, etc., but not how good he is, surely!
His promoter and his nationality?! What the hell has Mick Hennessy ever done? He's a terrible promoter on the world level.
Good post, decebal! You are right in saying that Inkin is much more proven than Pascal. As for Balzsay, the young Hungarian,he showed an impressive and convincing performance against Inkin, but apart from that scalp he hasnt proved that much at supermiddle up to now.I for one dare to say that his potential is more promising than Froch's one,but honour where honour is due: Froch, all in all,has the far better fight record in my opinion. Nevertheless,I for one would bet my money on Balzsay in a fight against Froch.
He's done VERY well with Froch so far...not even Frank would have managed to give the WBC belt against a risk/reward like Pascal, only to get him a fight against a great risk/reward like Taylor in his very next fight.
Yeah, Balzsay, Inkin and Froch are much of a muchness. I don't mind that much whether Froch's put above them, to be honest. :good
Nice list- here's my updated one: 1. Kessler 2. Bute 3. Taylor 4. Froch 5. Andrade 6. Balzsay 7. Bika 8. Inkin 9. Dirrell 10. Pascal There's a number of close calls as much of the list is fairly evenly matched, but nothing a few more fights between them won't sort out. :thumbsup
You are so right - mate :thumbsup Andrade is not just a walk in the park to get past.. Probably Kessler and Bute are the only ones in SMW who has the - thing - to do it.... Bute barely did..... Would love to see froch try... I don't see JT, Inkin or Berrio do it....
Berrio is no longer a SMW. He's moved up to LHW. Not sure why. About Andrade, yeah, alongside Bika, he's the only guy except for Kessler and Bute who is without a doubt a proven contender and a Top 10 fighter. Anyone outside these four still has at least some questions hanging over them and how good they really are. With Kessler, Bute, Andrade and Bika, we know pretty well how good they are. :good
So...here's my new SMW Top 10...moved Balzsay behind Froch because Inkin doesn't look so great in hindsight, and hence, Balzsay doesn't either: 1. Kessler 2. Bute 3. Andrade 4. Taylor 5. Bika 6. Froch 7. Balzsay 8. Inkin Much of a muchness from 6-8 so far...none of them is clearly Top 5 for me. The rest I will not rank until they prove they belong. So, what's your Top 10?
