Kind of like Fritzie Zivic...I think you would, on the basis of volume alone have to rate him among the Top 20 at 126lbs. But he was clearly a level below the very best at the weight.

What makes you think so? Not saying he isnt. I see his name in Canastota. Fought countless greats, usually on the losing end but continued to take fights like a true champion. Never seen him fight. His record always intrigued me.

First let me say that Wright probably had the hardest road to the title of any champion in history in terms of number of oponents and quality.

He turned pro aged 16 and fought all the best fighters around and fought them regularly. He worked to a a ridiculous schedule and was often overmatched. He did not get his title shot untill his 139th pro fight by which time he had been overdue it for a long time.

Yes he lost to manyof the great fighters he fought but he took them on at stages in his career where a white fighter would already have got a title shot aand he also beat many of them. He had to fight the best oponents around multiple times to force the issue.

Wright is one of the champions who had every possible obstacle placed in his path but helped himself to the title anyway.

Also he screwd Mae West. That should be taken into acount as well.
