At 135 or 140 i can't see much difference here. 15 rounds. Who wins the irresistible force or the unhittable object ? I think Pryor would edge it .... just

I think Pryor would win at 140, and fairly handily. He won't respect Whitaker's power, and he has a lot of handspeed in abundance himself. He would be all over Pernell.

Dreaming ...beating an old ,slow, hittable Arguello is completely different than hitting Sweet Pea and I say this loving Pryor ... I like Pernell by decision ...

    Good point.

I would be more liable to agree if Pryor was not as agile as he was, but that guy could throw flurries with good power for 15 rounds. He walked through Alexis, a power puncher, I see him doing something similar to Pernell, who does not have a very charming KO ratio.

Would be a very close fight.

But I dont buy into all this nonsense about Pryor just simply walking through Sweet Pea's punches. There are many instances in Whitaker's career where his power had almost no effect on his opponants but he won by a massive margin anyway.
His ability to just not be there to hit after punching made him near impossible to pin down in his prime.
I think what would make this close is Pryor's unorthodox style and workrate. Pea did fine without brute strength and power, his style was formed to complement his amazing speed and reflexes not his power.
Aaron could find a fading and less mobile Arguello no problem but thats a completely different story against Pea.

Pernell made the jump to welter and beyond that I could not see Pryot doing..I think if he could hang with & beat some pretty damn good and strong welterweights then Aaron's strength wont have as much of an impact as some people make out.

Very interesting fight, could have wide discrepencies in the scoring by the end..I think the fact Whitaker is the more proven fighter makes it hard for me to pick against him.

I think to beat Whittaker it would take a fighter who does not get discouraged by missing.
I think the reason Trinidad could not stop an old Whittaker was because he could not set himself to throw. Pryor would just throw, miss some, throw some more and maybe take P to a dark place where he had never been before. I don't think the issue is Pryors power more his relentless recklessness. I could also envisage P outboxing him totally too

    1) He did not "walk through" Alexis. The first fight in particular was very close up until the controversial 14th round KO.

    2) Arguello is far more hittable and fights nothing like Whitaker, so any comparison between the two in the first place is useless, especially a comparison of punching power as if it has any bearing on the way the matchups would play out similarly.

He did not walk through arguello, but what do you feel P would have had to stop him doing it against him ? Do you think P could have been elusive for the full 15 against the Hawk ? Or could he have slugged down the stretch if he had to ?

It's not about walking through punches as there is no such a thing. You can absorb and divert punches, you don't technically walk through them; punches get at least a cringe, a pause, creating a means to retreat or follow-up.

It's about Whitaker's high-volume jab catching Pryor's forehead and upsetting his charges. If he can keep up his work rate and pivot, pivot, pivot Pryor he could carve out a high paced decision.

Pryor may be driven to pulling his fro’ out trying to pin Whitaker down. It would be hectic, but here's to betting Whitaker's game and choice of punches would give him the fight.

I can see the outcome Ted speaks of, i also can imagine Pryor throwing just too much for P to slip them all and overwhelming him.

I actually think, without trying to be objective, that it would be a DRAW.

Pryor's aggresive style will give Sweet Pea fits, but Sweet Pea is good enough that Pryor will not be able to land on him consistently.

Pea will win rounds with the jab and flurries inside when he has had a chance to slip, counter and back off again.

Pryor will win rounds with his aggresiveness and occasional landing of hard flurries, but will not be able to land enough to stop Pernell or comprhensively outpoint him.

Which is why I go for a Draw.

    Skills.

He could've outboxed the much wilder, more reckless Pryor throughout, though he'd have had a lot of difficulty doing so. Then again, Pryor would've had just as much if not more difficulty landing consistently given his balance issues against such a slickster and top notch counter-puncher. Close fight, but anyone claiming Pryor walks through Whitaker just because of a lack of power clearly doesn't understand the game of boxing very well, or Whitaker for that matter.
