Calzaghe - does he not have one of the most over glorified resumes in boxing history?

Defended his WBO title for 11 years against guys nobody will know or care about in another 5-10 years, a win over Mikkel Kessler, and a win over a cagey old fart and a win over a shot to pieces by a double barrel old fart.

The only things he really deserves credit for are his win over Kessler, which has yet to be proven as the great win that everyone claims, and becoming the first undisputed super middleweight champion in the process.

Hopkins cant be that much of an old fart if he beat the **** out of the undefeated middleweight champion for 12 rounds after his loss to Joe. Roy Jones is always dangerous and Calzaghe beat a prime and perhaps the only time there was a really dangerous Jeff Lacy. He also beat Chris Eubank who was above 30 but by no means was shot at that point. I do think that some people over glorify his record but alot of people dont give him the credit he deserves also. He was a great fighter, not the best but great and no one can ever convince me otherwise.

If I have to hear this song again, could you please put some music to it, so I can dance?
It's the same with Mayweather. He did this, he didn't do that, blah blah blah.
Time to move on to current fighters.

I'm not that impressed with his early work. However, from 2006 on, his resume was pretty impressive. Over that time period he won or defended every major belt at SMW including the Ring belt. He also won the Ring belt atg 175. Lacy might not have been the fighter that many though he was, but at the time Calzaghe fought him he was a highly regarded fighter as well as a top SMW. Bika was a solid, tough veteran. Kessler gets overrated on this forum but he is still a very good fighter who was a double belt holder, prime, undefeated and a top rated SMW. Hopkins was old, but was still one of the top fighters in the world, a top LHW, and had the crafty style needed to beat someone like Calzaghe.

All in all, from 2006 on, Calzaghe put together an impresive resume. The Jones fight was gravy. Pre 2006 was a relatively weak period for Calzaghe. However, SMW was pretty weak during that time period.

I would agree with that, apart from Eubank.

I am a fan, but Joe could have been a much better champ, if he fough a few better guys. I think he could have beaten them all in their day, with the exception of RJJ likely...it's like he didn't trust himself

You're doing Calzaghe no favors by trying to inflate his resume. There's no reason to bring up average fighters like Mitchell, Veit, and Woodhall to try to pump up his resume.
