Calzaghe - does he not have one of the most over glorified resumes in boxing history?

The way he handled Lacy was out of this world. We may claim that Lacy was overrated - but he was rated as a future Hall of Famer, a perfect boxing-machine and most of us expected him to defeat Calzaghe - the logserving WBO-champ, who had proved he could beat plenty secondraters during his reign as Champ. But he completely outboxed Lacy.
And I have to say - that fight took everything out of Lacy - Calzaghe won the fight and spoiled Lacy as a fighter. We can´t rate Lacys performance on what happened after Calzaghe.
Beating Kessler was a great achievement. Beating two old men in the US will pay the bills the rest of Calzaghes life - those two fights will soon be forgotten.

No, but it doesn't count for as much as his assinine fans will have you believe.

There's a reason why people have to constantly bring things like this up.. and that's because Calzaghe fans have officially surpassed Mayweather and Pac nuthuggers as the most annoying fans on this board.

Christ, enough about Lacy.. yes it was a good performance by Calzaghe but don't overrate Lacy by pointing out how overrated he used to be.

And the Kessler win is a good one, Kessler's a visibly good fighter, but how good? Well, that has yet to be seen. You can't just assume a fighter is " A level " by beating a couple of B level fighters and a bunch of cans. Nobody knows what kind of intangibles Kessler has in him aside from what we've seen in the Calzaghe fight.

  5. Joe wasn't all that great when he was the young man fighting old men (or ring worn fighters) either. He barely deserved the win over CE in '97 (a draw (or even a narrow loss) would have been far more reasonable in light of how many times he managed to catch right hands with his face and how few meaningful punches he landed in the final 8 rounds and that he wasn't the champ defending his belt. [well, at least officially, in fact, it sure looks like many around that fight were well predisposed to that result]).

Joe just held up well because he managed to avoid being thrown into the fire with elite fighters during his career. If he had had to fight tough customers he wouldn't have been so pristine at the end. But, he still struggled incredibly with a past-peak CE, looked like a near amateur flailing around against a 43-year old (and got dropped by that 43-year old), and got dropped by a really shot RJJ. Surely, if you have Roy's career on DVD you have noticed a bit of a fall off from his prime.

    Chris Eubank

03.08.06 - By Jay Briggsy: Former WBO super-middleweight champion Chris Eubank believes ...

"Listen, Calzaghe is easy to hit with right hands. He's busy enough, fast handed southpaw but he's abit European, quite square and rigid, you know? He's far from unhittable, infact he's easy to hit with the right (hand). Just a basic, straight right hand lead he doesn't seem to see, but of course, you have to have abit of speed and that's ...

"I also found him (Calzaghe) fairly easy to hit with body shots. ...," added the lisping former champ.

http://espn.go.com/boxing/ - Click on the Burt Sugar interview "In Your Corner" about 2 minutes into the interview the question of Calzaghe's place in the ATG's comes up and Burt - The man who's written the book on the greatest fighters of all time on 2 occasions gives his assessment.

Lacy was hyped to the moon, but to say "he was a future hall of famer"? I mean come one, he hadn't even had a signature win at that point.

Please don't bring the Chris Eubank win into this.... The fact that you say Eubank was not shot at that point only shows how ignorant you are.

But still, I Think Calzaghe's career is very impressive, but he never tested himself to see how great his legacy could have been, he was more concerned at remaining undefeated.

And yet both fighters, a shell of his prime in RJJ and 43 years old B-Hop both dropped him in the first round in the real fight. B-Hop won the fight on many unofficial score cards and he has "not a prayer"?

Cal was fighting his career most exciting fight w/Byron Mitchell when B-Hop won the Ray Robinson Cup at Middle and he has "not a prayer"?

You can keep posting the same **** about Calzaghe-Eubank being close all you want, but if you actually watched the fight, you cannot possibly have it closer than 8-3-1, you will never find a piece from Chris saying he was robbed(coz he would if he thought he was). He praised him for a year after the fight, then pointed out how to defeat him(Which you keep quoting).

You will never give Calzaghe credit. Since I've been here, Big Reg has been a staunch critic of Calzaghe but he has never bent the truth, he will give credit, but state what he was lacking (Like this thread). Something you seem unable to do. Bringing into question continuesly one of his most dominant victories makes you look like an idiot. But to be fair you also state that Bhop was "Nowhere near" prime in 01, so what is to be expected. Muppet.
