Could have really gone either way.

On clean effective punching there was very little in the fight. Taylor perhaps landed the harder punches, as we'd expect from a full blown middleweight.

Spinks had a higher work-rate and showed better defence.

Spinks was probably the better ring general.

if only he wouldve taken a few more chances and let his hands go a lil more. hes a very very smart boxer as far as being in control and controlling your opponent goes he just never had enough pop to keep his opponent from disrespecting him and coming in without worrying about cory hurtin them..Cory couldve been one of the goat

He let his hands go more than enough. From my recollection he threw around 200 more punches than Taylor.

He threw about 220 more, landed about 15 less for an abysmal connect rating of 11%.

Mainly because he was pawing at Taylor from about halfway across the ring out of fear of getting killed.

Tells you all you need to know about this terrible, awful fight.

I remember this awful borefest. I thought Spinks might have done enough for a decision. It was a ridiculous fight for both of them. Emmanuel Steward was yelling at Taylor to wake up and start throwing more. This was the main event of the Pavlik - Miranda fight, which was an absolute bludgeoning, and quite an entertaining fight...

Yep, it was tedious viewing indeed.

The biggest question I was asking was why the hell didn't Taylor engage this guy. Just walk him down, he can't punch ****! He didn't really make a big effort to do that. I hardly blame little Spinks for messing around, the onus was on Taylor.

I remember thinking that if Taylor let himself go he could of really troubled Spinks but he failed to do so and in the end it was a very forgetful fight, It could of gone either way in the end but i think in the Taylor just about edged it.

The most action in that fight was Manny Steward ripping Taylor a new one.

One of the best lines in boxing ever..."He's trying to steal the Bull**** Championship":lol:

that was funny...lol. Like everybody else said, sorry ass fight, and Steward in the corner was the main attraction. Didn't help that they had to follow up on a potential fight of the year, and they are reportedly very good friends.

It looked like a sorry sparring match that Larry Merchant called "Dancing with the Stars".:rofl

Spinks ran a fu*ken marathon in this fight. This is a great example of a fighter fighting scared and not willing to take almost no risk. Having said that, JT didn't help himself by falling into Spinks' little game and just chasing him instead of cutting off the ring. It was clear that had he just let his hands go, he would've probably KOed Spinks. But JT is the kind of guy who, when not pressed against, won't initiate the action and sometimes gets lulled into a dull fight.

As for clean, effective punches, there were so few to choose from. It was a close fight. That doesn't mean either man did anything well. They both stunk it up.
