It was one good fight, Taylor had one good fight at 160 once in a while as well. Whether he will be consistent remains to be seen. Joe's "meaningless" flurries beat the prime out of Lacy and hurt him more than Taylor was able to hurt him.
I'm going for him to take the WBC from Froch myself but it will depend on the manner he wins.We''llsee. I can't stand people rating him so high for beating just Lacy.
Hopefully Jt beats Froch for the WBC title and we have another massive match up at 168. Kessler wins this imo. Everything JT does MK can do better. Kessler UD.
Yeah, .I agree. Usually that is one aspect of boxing people rarely analyze -consistency of fighters gameplans. Taylor is a guy who has great skills, but he is so good he seems to be able to eek out rounds just on his skill without a real gameplan and never needing one. Yet he almost lost fights and lost one fight without it. I know he had a gameplan with Pavlik in the rematch, but just the times he strayed a little showed he could not really stick to it mentally. Sometimes when he was fighting I was watching him and he is all over the place not really doing anything with prethought or planning, just rather just winning from his speed and going through the motions. Maybe he won his title too young. He had the skills to beat Bernard, but his experience was not great enough to learn the whole game before he fought all the good guys he did in that 3 year period. Great skills. But when he gets in a tough fight he loses his concentration like you said. Too bad. I think he could have been a great fighter had he had more discipline. Give him Bernard's discipline and he would be hard to beat. Maybe when he gets older he will plan more and learn how to win fights with his head and not just his skills. Some fighters have such good skills but never learned how to apply the discipline and boxing technique to them. A guy who seems to fall into this category is Zab Judah. Although I am not comparing Taylor to Judah. Taylor is a better fighter. Hearns is a guy who fought so well when he was younger, but lost to Ray when he was inexperienced. He tried everything to beat Ray, but he did not have a real gameplan to beat Ray. He was so good he didn't need any. After Ray he started to have gameplans more but still would stray like with Hagler-and that was part of Hearns makeup. When he beat Hill 10 years after that he was disciplined and had a gameplan. So when Tommy's skills went down, he did adjust and have more gameplans. Hearns is great because he readjusted and learned the whole game.
Jermaine Taylor UD Kesslers claim to fame is supposedly taking 4 rounds of Joe Calzaghe. Taylor is faster and more dynamic and has been in far more high profile fights.
