Mosley is not shot at all. He looks better now than he did 02-05.

Well Cus D"amato knew boxing, but I disagree with this. Boxing writers said when Hearns fought Ray in 1989 that Hearns fought great for one last fight. Well he beat Hill 2 years later. 2 fights? Mosley is not shot. That is not a shot fighter. He is diminished, but he fought great. I suspect he can have more wins like that if the style is right. But a shot fighter losses even if the style is right. I guess we have to define what is a shot fighter.

I am not sure about this. It all came together for Shane last month. The talk of how Margarito would beat him up seems to have motivated him, and also his knowledge and pride that he would not let a guy as limited as Margarito beat him. I actually think he did not respect Margarito's skills and was insulted that people would pick Margo to beat him. You could tell he really wanted to prove something vs. Margarito bigtime. He knew he was better than Margo prior to the fight. Great fighters can do that. The Margarito fight elevated Shane to great in my mind. The style matchup was also great in his favor, but average fighters do not have that vision of who they can and cannot beat and put it all together. Shane and Bernard have it. Great fighters do.

Mosley had no ko's from 02 -05. Also, he only had 3 wins. Since then he's tko'd Vargas twice, beat down Collazo, fought near even terms with Cotto, and destroyed Margarito. 02-05 he wasn't letting his hands go. Now he knocking guys out and beating top opposition, instead of struggling against guys like Cruz and Estrada.

he's not. Past his prime absolutely, but nowhere shot. Unless the possibility of an older fast fighter gets beaten by a young fast fighter is impossible for you?? A shot fighter will not stand a chance against Margo. And im not really a fan of Margo.

    The problem is simple.

You don't understand the common meaning of the term.

(But, if it's any consolation, you're not the only one on ESB)

Margo is a Very slow limited guy, who for all we know could've been loading his gloves his entire career, this fight was not about what SSM had left in the tank it was about how poor a fighter Margo really is.

Exactly. There's a world of different between being past prime (or not at their best) and being shot. Also just saying a guys age and assuming that means he's shot is just as bad. So many seem to mention Shane's age like there needs to be a constant reminder. A guy is shot when he's losing badly to guys he would normally beat clearly and comfortably. When mere contenders or even journeymen start to give you a tougher time and even beat you, that's shot. Jones is shot. DLH looks to be shot (and will more so if he faces someone his size). Kevin Kelly and Echols are good examples. Mark Johnson is shot. "Shot" is thrown around too much....

A shot fighter is someone whos physical capabilities have declined alot, RJJ can still be a top 10 guy at LHW but he is shot, Mosley is not the fighter he was earlier in his career, it just so happens that there is noone around at 147 that is very good, Margo got his fame by beating another Hype job- Cintron down.

This is true. Granted, Mosley didn't look all that great in the Cotto fight, but for the most part I agree. I've said this myself.

Cintron was a hype job, so Margarito's wins over him aren't that good, and then Shane's win over Margarito means more about the Welterweight division being not very good, then it does being a huge win for him? For reals? :huh
    :-(

Mosley shot? Margo is more like it. When a fighter is shot, nothing they do is effective in the ring and everything comes out wrong. Mosley might be past his prime, but no where near shot. Yes, he is much more effective as a welter, but he is still very dangerous at 154 and I'd have him as a favourite against any of the champions, including Forrest. Mosley might turn out to be the best fighter of his generation from a decade ago and IMO has a great chance of avenging his losses to Vernon. RJJ is a good example of a shot fighter, where he is not even close to where he was in his prime, yet even in his shot form, he gives mortals a fight even today. Same with Holyfield, whose shot version got robbed by Valuev, but prime Holy would of destroyed within 5 rounds or less. When elite fighters have trouble with journeymen, it is a sign, but nothing is set in stone
