Terry Norris - Is It Just Me...

    Or did he feast on the corpses of smaller and shot fighters just as much if not more then any fighter of the past few decades?

    I think there's a big difference between a larger fighting taking on world class, elite fighters (Damned good versions of them) and beating them, such as Hopkin's Hoya/Trinidad or Monzon Napoles/Griffith then Norris beating on B-Level guys like Mugabi or fighters years and years past their best.

    Donald Curry, ex WW. Last fight of his actual career beisdes two joke comeback fights. Knocked out by Nunn almost a year prior.

    Mugabi. Completely different (And far poorer) fighter post Hagler, and just shy of a year after Norris he gets dusted by McClellan.

    Meldrick Taylor wasn't as far gone as Curry but against, like Mugabi he was a completely different fighter after his career defining fight and Norris swept right in onto the opportunity.

    Then there's Leonard...

    You could add Maurice Blocker to the list, since he was coming up from WW, and was coming off a disputed split-decision victory over Luis Garcia going into the fight. Vincent Pettaway was pretty far gone when Norris faced him, and Brown was past his prime, too.

    Couldn't agree more. Norris is a generally overrated fighter IMO.

    There is a reason that his popularity is somewhat obscured. I basically forgot about the guy after he hung up the gloves.

    Weren't you a big fan of Norris at one point Russell? I believe me and you got into an argument about this very same thing. Norris is overrated in so many ways it's not even funny, as talented as he was physically.

    Terry gave us some fun fights though. Norris - Waters is a classic slugfest. His biggest weakness was his chin, but he outboxed and outslugged a lot of guys. Simon Brown was no slouch. Neither were Pettway, Vaden or Castro. At one point, I think Terry had two out of three belts, which is more than I can say for a lot of guys.

    Don't think so, I've never been a massive fan of Norris.

    I don't think the Leonard fight is completely irrelevant as Leonard was a ATG world class fighter... But a post Hagler Mugabi? Who gives a ****?

    I don't think he's overrated, but thats simply because no one rates him very highly except for rooster.

    I think he's in the company like Julian Jackson & Roger Mayweather great offensive machine's, but a little short in the chin department. Interestingly enough the same knock could be said for Orlin Norris, Good offensive power fighter, but was prone to the knock out.

    YES! To a certain degree, Terry Norris beat some old farts and little dudes...... Still, Norris was a good champion at 154 pounds..... Was Norris really worthy of his immediate H.O.F. induction? Well, that was a bit of a gift / favor..... Terry Norris had good skill, speed & power; but his chin sucked....

    Nothing wrong with Jackson's chin. What's there to knock, him being knocked out twice by sawed down LHW Gerald McClellan, who was one of the hardest punchers of the last few decades?

    He was a 154lber after all.
