Arum Doesn't Seem To Want Any Part Of Mosley vs. Cotto II

Any theories? Or is it all just "money business" as Arum will try and claim?

I agree he seems reluctant to make the fight, always saying Mosley will want 50% and we can get more money for Miguel in other fights. I dont think he is particularly wrong that Mosley will want 50% (which IMO he is entitled to) and Miguel may get a bit more elsewhere, but i think ulitmately with Margarito out for at least a year and with the first fight as good and close as it was, sooner or later we have to see Cotto Vs Mosley II

Maybe when Mosley turns 40 years old Arum will feel more comfortable with the rematch. I'm pretty much willing to go on the record now and say if the fight doesn't happen next; I'd say there's very little chance of it ever happening.

All sorts of things can and possibly will go wrong/right for Cotto and/or Mosley.

Shane is trying to play the big dog by refusing to fight Cotto in NY - he's got his eye on the Hatton/Pacquiao winner (and seems to believe he has the world on a string suddenly, forgetting how quickly it can all go away) - but if Hatton wins I doubt his team will consider Mosley a good option. And depending on what happens with Cotto, Mosley might **** himself out of that rematch at any point in the future, because it's unlikely Arum will change his tune. So Mosley might leave himself with nothing. He seems really ****ing good at that based on his history though.

If Pacquiao wins Freddie Roach has already named Mosley as the next possible opponent - and that means that Cotto will be left out of the sweepstakes - I don't care what Arum is trying to con Cotto with, he's not the first guy in line to get Pacquiao - Mosley is after deposing Margarito (who was Team Pacquiao's next intended target), and if Cotto wants a chance at that huge pie he has to get it going through Mosley.

Did I mention that Cotto seems to despise Arum at this point as well?

Does Arum really think the insanely ambitious Freddie Roach and Manny Pacquiao are going to be interested in fighting Miguel Cotto (after getting stomped by Margarito and beating some chap called Michael Jennings)? I seriously hope not..

Arum is trying to claim it's all about the money (and we know it is), but it doesn't all add up. There's alot more money to be made for Cotto going through Mosley and Pacquiao - if he believes in his man, and he clearly doesn't seem to.

If Cotto doesn't push to fight Mosley in Vegas or LA I won't have any choice but to lose respect for him.

The best possible thing for Cotto and Mosley, now, and in the future, is to fight each other, now.

Agreed. Arum would naturally love to put Cotto in with Pac because it would yield the biggest payday. Mosley has said that he wants to fight Cotto however he wants a fight to take place in Cali next time around. Cotto is scheduled to fight again at MSG in June so the prospect of a Cotto-Mosely rematch in June seems to be remote.

Cotto doesn't have to fight at MSG does he? He said he wanted to fight Mosley again even before Margarito was suspended. I'd like to see how serious he was about that.

Arum is going make excuses about getting "Miguel the biggest possible purse" (his purse) - but Arum is always thinking several fights ahead. He's full of ****, really, and that "Pacquiao/Cotto" talk is pure fantasy at this point. Cotto has zero heat, and Team Pacquiao is all heat these days. Even if Cotto comes out looking good somehow, if the time comes, Freddie probably won't like the fact that Cotto is much bigger than Manny, and actually young and in his fighting prime.

I'm just waiting to see what Cotto's reaction will be at this point. If he ends up fighting someone like Cintron this summer instead of Mosley I might have to puke..

Arum is trying to recoup some of the losses he'll more than likely suffer this weekend. He's paying Cotto and Pavlik both out of pocket without the support of any major network. With the fights being on PPV, he'll be lucky to break even.

Cotto vs. any top welterweight Puerto Rican Day weekend at MSG would bring in more revenue than a Mosley fight on the West coast. So I don't think this is a case of him avoiding Shane, but rather a case of him chasing the almighty dollar.

Personally, I've grown tired of Arum, and think Cotto should ditch him with the quickness. I think Miguel is starting to feel the same way.

That would be good. But Arum doesn't seem to want this fight so he'll likely do everything he can to break it, and Mosley is acting like he's the king don at this point.

It's his tradition to fight there on the eve of the Puerto Rican Day parade. He doesn't have to fight there but that date, in that arena featuring Cotto equals a big payday for Arum and I don't see him relinquishing that idea.

Right, agreed for the most part - Arum is always after the dollar. But like I said; based on common sense and the indications being given by Team Pacquiao; Cotto would be in a far better position to force a fight with Pacquiao if he beat Mosley, Team Pacquiao's next intended target.

If Arum wasn't trying to avoid Mosley in any sense, he would make Mosley/Cotto because that greatly increases the public pressure and interest in a Cotto/Pacquiao fight. That means alot more money for Arum - and he should know it. So that's where I get the "avoiding Mosley" stuff from. Team Pacquiao has already named Mosley.

Depends on how Cotto looks in the Jennings fight I reckon.

I know mosely will lose again to cotto in a close fight, but in cali they would give it to mosely, considering that mosely is from there and he beat the man that beat the man.

Maybe I was misinformed; but I'm pretty darn certain that Top Rank was claiming they wanted to stage Cotto/Margarito in Vegas to "help grow Cotto's fanbase and brand name." That was the objective of both Miguel and "the company." Yeah, they make good money at MSG in June, but there is no better time to fight Mosley than right now, and Cotto said himself that is what he wanted. I guess we'll see..

    :deal :thumbsup :yep

  15. i WOULD rather see Mosley fight the Hatton-Paq winner probaly in the fall, and see Cotto fight Josh Clotty:yep....
Now that Mosley has gotten the 2nd wind of his career at 38, folks are gonna start avoiding him like the plague, Paul Williams-Mosley would be a tough scrap:deal
