Cortez did well, and was consistent, in both those fights. Hopkins and even more so hatton needed a strict referee to make those fights vaguely watchable.

Everyone agrees (even me the biggest Hatton fan) that Floyd is a different level BUT that doesn't take away from the fact that Cortez is a shocking referee and is horribly inconsistamt and biased. He shouldn't be allowed near a ring ever again the tvvat IM FAIR BUT FIRM - get the f*** out of here
Hatton's big fault is not holding so much as falling into his opponent - oftentimes the clinch is then initiated by the opponent though oftentimes - but by no means all - it is initiated by hatton. So often it is Hatton's opponent who grabs an arm as he sees Hatton barging in with his shoulder dipped. At this point Hattons likes to use his shoulder to lever himself out and punch on the way out of the clinch. What suits Hatton - contrary to popular belief - is not a full clinch but a mini clinch that ends before the ref has to break the fighters up. His chance against PBF was to rock him early in this situation in one of the early rounds and then just jump on him against the ropes. Cortez was breaking up so early - indefensibly early in my view, so much so that you had to believe he was not necessarily looking at what he saw in front of him but on his view formed before the fight of what he was going to prevent - that clinches had barely formed and Hatton was never at the right distance to go with his plan A and was totally out of his rhythm. Hatton's inability to form a plan B continues to be his biggest weakness as a fighter so he can't really complain. Even if PBF was destined to win it would have been fascinating to watch with how he coped with Hatton catching him moving out of the clinch. We never go to see that and we never got to see the fight we deserved. I'm no fan of Cortez - he's a poor ref in my view and way too full of his own self importance but he was particularly bad that night. Its not the result I have a problem with but the spoiling of the spectacle.
Man Cortez could let Hatton fight whatever way he wants as long as his punches are legal and you'd have the same resutlt..YOU COULD GET ANY REF IN THE WORLD AND THE RESULT WOULD BE THE SAME!!! :deal

Well there we'll have to disagree. I like watching fights. And I like watching good fights. If I was just interested in the results I'd check them up online or read about it in books.
what is the point...PBF destroys hatton every time they fight..any weight any ref any venue...who cares...hatton has won plenty of fights cuz of his holding and mauling
