You do realise that offers were made to Liles, Benn, Collins, Eubank? Don't know about the other, however, it strikes me as strange that you would call Jones a ducker but not DM?:huh

 

Roy Jones would have beaten DM like a government mule. Jones would have stopped him on cuts.

 

I've never been a Roy Jones fan, clever matchmaking is key to his longetivity as a champion. On the other hand, he has great skill along with a awkward style and fancy footwork that worked in his favour for a good stretch. He beat James Toney fair and square, Toney was a perfect opponent for him.

in fact didnt he offer to fight roy in florida and give him 100% of the purse?


I am not slating Roy by the way hes one of my favourite fighters and theres no way he would have been scared to fight the likes of eubank but not scared to fight toney hopkins and a heavyweight.

 

Roy in his prime would have beaten all of these guys. He did beat Toney and Hill who were HOF.

 

Firstly, to the OP: you're wrong. Accept it, move on.

Secondly, of all those mismatches, the most grisly would have been Benn/Jones. Benn was tough and could take punishment, that fight would have shortened his life by a decade.

That happened, only it was Gerald McClellan his friend. Jones has a far more defensive mindset than Benn who never possesed a lot of finese.

Jones is the one fighter thats gets a lot of hate of message boards for no obvious reason. I don't understand it. He ducked Nigel Benn and Julian Jackson, are they people being serious?

 

I think it's just the cherry picking of his 175 career with the Glenn Kelly's etc.

I think he is probably kicking himself he didn't stay at heavyweight to fight Holyfield and then rematch Toney at HW - Would have bookended his career nicely.

Yup. Your correct. Benn respected Roy so much that he really didn't mind if he's only #2. BUT at the same time he RELISHED a fight with Roy Jones. In one of his post-fight interviews where he was asked about a fight with RJJ, he said the same thing I said and that he would love to fight Roy Jones because Roy's the guy who would put the fear in him and that Benn thrives from fear.

 

McCallum was a shell when he fought Jones, just as much as Jones himself was when he fought Calzaghe.
Out of the people Jones didn't fight i reckon Mclellan would have stood the best chance of beating him. Most people ( all ? ) disagree with me but he never faced anyone who brought the power and intensity that Gerald did. You can't really say Jones ducked him though, they may well have fought had things turned out different.
Benn's my favorite boxer but he would have struggled against Roy. The Benn who beat Mclellan would have been a match for anyone but if they would have fought after that Jones would have embarrased him, the fight ruined Benn.
