It's perfectly simple. Nobody hates them, 99.9999999999% of us have never met or spoken to them. I myself more often than not write posts about the Klitschko's in the negative, not because I hate them, not because I think they're not talented fighters but because there are legions of slavering idiots on this board who worship them almost as deities, believe them to be wholly above any kind of criticism whatsoever. The "Klitschko ko1 > Ali" or "Lewis used his hair" crowd. When confronted with this kind of 'boxing fan fundamentalism' it's difficult to always roll ones eyes and go and read somebody's worthwhile opinion. Towhit, it's annoying. The predictable reaction to this constant bombardment of idiocy is a displacement of dislike from the people who write crap about the Klitschko's all day to the Klitschko's themselves. Nobody hates them but nobody with half a brain cell thinks they beat Ali in a round or that they're the greatest fighters ever just because they stand atop a pretty poor pile of heavyweights. The question is childish, as is answering a criticism with term like, ahem "hatter" etc.
It's a pretty funny phenomenon...the critics that claim they can't stand the vast legion of fans who choose to support a certain fighter end up sounding just as irrational for the opposing argument. Its not just the Klitschkos' that have "irrational" fans. Look at the fans of Manny Pac, Joe Calzaghe, PBF, Antonio Margarito, the list is endless. Take Suge and Fighting Weight, for example...they ultimately sound like Teddy Atlas when mere mention of the Klitschko Brothers. They make irrational comments and fight predictions that defy all logic. Teddy is as knowledgable as anyone who knows the fight game, but when asked to make a prediction on an upcoming Klitschko bout, he sounds like a complete idiot.
You're absolutely right, it's not a Klitschko exclusive phenomenon. However I think it's been going on for the longest with the two brothers at least on these boards and has the bitterest opposition.
name me one of his fights that will be rememberd in 10 years. apart frm the lewis fight (which will be rememberd because of lennox)
MY VIEW: non american dominance breeds hatred, says it all about american insecurity and fickleness, call it what you will race, xenophobia or just plain jealousy. the hatred comes firmly from non white americans or simply non white fans,(from my own experience on here anyway)there i said it,its sad but true. flip that coin and i tend to favour white fighters myself being white,so do i fall under the above categories??though i like to think i can appreciate good fighters regardless. the brothers are great fighters, would be in any era,its just that certain european restraint, humility and ability to get the job done with no theatrics(there supposed robotic style)and there masses of maturity and general all round ability to NOT act like a primate and to NOT talk like a ****** that brings about certain indifferences and envy from certain demographic's. "fedor is the greatest figter ever.in any arena"
don't you think klitschko had an important part in it as well in giving lennox one of his toughest fights? besides that, vitali will be remembered as the only one coming off a four year lay-off to win the hw championship of the world. vitali's fights are never boring, he has 35 kos in 36 wins for god's sake...
Sorry to be a pedant, but no he didn't. He came back and won the WBC title from an average fighter. I'm not denigrating the performance, but lets put things in perspective.
you didnt name a fight? i didnt ask how will vitali be rememberd i said what fight will be? as for the lewis fight he gave an out of shape lewis a decent fight fair enough but that fight will be rememberd more as lewis' last fight then anything else. By no means do i think he is a bad fighter i just dont find his fights exciting, it takes more then a KO to impress me.
personally i think, that its also a size issue.. they always have a size advantage, and its a common thing to root for the underdog.. we want surprises, we want to be shown how to overcome obstacles, well looking at a 6.6-6.7 ft guy beating up a smaller man, definetly does not fall, into that category.. dont know if there is any relevance in revealing my nationality or skincolour, but ill do it anyway, half danish and half greek, living in denmark.. so for me its not a race issue, i just dislike the ****ers because of their style and size advantage.. i dont believe they would have been anything special, without the size advantage.. thats also the reason ill rather watch normal sized men go at it, as its much more based en talent..
I honestly think the only people that dislike the K-Bros are those that believe that a fighter must be trashy in order to be any good. How dare educated athletes with superior work ethic invade the domain of boxing is what these folks think. They can't stand the fact that they can't identify with either man because many of the haters have never worked anywhere near as hard as these guys do. The Klitschko's remind me of the Russian wrestler Alexander Karelin who said "I train every day of my life as they have never trained a day in theirs." Both Vitali and Wladimir realize that they will pay dearly if they don't prepare not only physically, but mentally as well for every single fight.
C'mon Farmy. Its the quality of their opposition. They are far to touted as ATG's given their level of competition, ESPECIALLY Vitali. He was beaten by a half retired Lennox Lewis. And Wladimir, he was beaten by Wladimir, TWICE, and thats not a typo.
