Hardest puncher - Benn at SMW or Jackson at MW

I agree that would have been a good fight.I think Graham at his best might just have pulled it off.Nice to see Frank Grant get a mention.
I think Jackson was a harder puncher than Benn but i think Benn would have had a good chance of beating him.

Better fighter? Nigel Benn.

 

Benn was a quick puncher who threw those fast wide punches in my mind, but Jackson was a guy who threw the perfectly leveraged punch when he needed it and when it was the time. I think Jackson was the more devastating puncher if you look at the results. I would think that if you asked Norris or Graham how hard Jackson punched, they would not have felt it much during the fight, they just went to sleep. Yet Eubank and Watson and Dewitt and Barkley all felt Benns. I think Jackson had a style to where he would throw punches at different strengths during the fight and then sort of close the show when he knew he had the right punch. Benn threw his punches hard all the time. Jackson was more like Hearns in the way he waited to throw the great punch at the right time. Benn was more like Barkley, just quicker and with a weaker chin.

The better question would be between Jackson and G-Man?????

its a shame jackson wasnt nearly as gifted in other departments as he was in terms of his power seems like a bit of a crime IMO

 

I don't think Benn had that great a chin from what I saw, his power was generated from his great speed. He could throw great wide punches faster than I have seen anyone do it. With Iran Barkley he was great. I think later he went down less because he got more experienced. He learned how to avoid getting hit cleaner once he fought McClleland and Eubank later, yet then he went more rounds also.But Doug Dewitt knocked him down with a nice counter left which had Benn hurt. Watson hurt Benn, and the punch which Barkley hurt Benn with was not landed clean but was also a counter left hook like Dewitt's. Barkley on the other hand took punches very well. He took Hearns and Duran's and Toney and Nunn's punch. He did not do well with Benn at all. That was an odd fight- although the 3 knockdown rule should not have applied in this fight. I think Barkley could have recovered and stopped Benn had that rule not stopped it. But Benn was nailing him, so maybe Padilla would have stepped in. I think that was the ref for that fight.

Hands down? I dont think so. Benn had sickening power especially at MW but I rate Jacksons power highly also. Both great punchers.
