For the sake of boxing, we need to see this fight, Calzaghe is still the man at 168-175, Dawson is the rising star who should prove himself against the veteran, who takes this one as of right now? I personally think Dawson has the tools to be around for a long time but I'm not quite sure hes ready for Calzaghe... at this point in time I'd pick Joe to take a decision 8-4 or 7-5

Dawson could not beat Johnson! Johnson beat the crap out of Dawson, almost knocked him out! Had him out of his feet!

Joe has speed, stamina, can adjust, he was a great fighter. Most boxers would love to have his talent and record. Calzaghe had been considering retirement for a long time, I hope he stays retired if he wants to. Keep his brains together.

If Joe beats Dawson, people would just say Dawson was not ready or was never good.

I would've loved to see it, and it's the only matchup Joe didn't immediately slag off, which leads me to think the door must've been at least an inch open for a possible showdown with Chad for a farewell fight- provided Chad built up his name enough to bring something to the table....but, much to my chagrin, any sliver of hope of it happening was probably buried when the Tarver fight got postponed due to Chad getting injured. Not that the fight happening was much more than a longshot anyways, but that's probably the final nail in the coffin for it.

Why is that? Dawson doesn't even have a fan base and what has Dawson done to deserve to fight Joe? Just cause this would be a good fight doesn't mean Joe NEEDS Dawson. Thats the problem with you dudes, you guys always find a new guy and claim the guy who wants to retire "NEEDS" this new, young guy. You guys kill me.

I like him more, he's one of my fav fighters of today and I definetely favor Chad over Joe. But where was Chad 2yrs ago? Now all of a sudden "Joe NEEDS Chad"

Try telling that to Lacy or Kessler. Plus, Johnson is a journeyman with 12 losses. Calzaghe is undefeated and has one of the best skill sets in the game. Two different things.

If Joe beats Dawson, there will be someone else. People won't be happy until he gets beaten.

:deal This. And 6 months later there'd be some other "next big thing" that Calzaghe "needed" to fight. And eventually, he would end up losing to one of them simply due to ageand all the haters would have seized on it "see he was never anything anyway". Dude isn't motivated anymore, he's 36 years old, he wants to retire. Let it go!

yes he has. he's ranked two in the ratings with a string of solid wins over adamek, johnson and tarver. he showed more than anybody that he was worthy of a shot at calzaghe.

on the other hand i don't really have a problem with a 37 year old man wanting out of the fight game.

  15. Wouldn't be close. EAAAAAAAASY points win or stoppage. Probably stoppage. Dawson is way too young, skilled, and talented for Joe. Joe has not beat a single great fighter in their prime at SMW and hasn't fought anyone under 40 at LHW. It would be a mismatch and Joe would catch punches with his face until he folded. He knows it, anyone who isn't a nuthugger knows it. It will never happen. Joe is playing Maiden's "Run To The Hills". He may not be great but he isn't stupid.
