    Just re-watched Vitali vs. Lewis.

I'll be honest and say that if the fight had continued I would have heavily favoured Vitali to win, although I wouldn't rule out Lennox landing something big and getting the KO. But the round prior to the end, Lewis was exhausted (Vitali wasn't much better off either though).

But, you have to look at this objectively, Lewis had been inactive for the longest period in his career, he came in at a career high weight, lets be honest; he looked overweight and out of shape. He was also past his best, and mentally, not very motivated.

I would add, the win for Lennox was totally fair and legitimate, Lewis busted up Vitali' face so bad that the big Ukranian couldn't continue...

So, I think Vitali was a very sore loser, he refused to accept defeat, yes, he was unlucky, but at the end of the day, he knows the rules, and he was beaten, simple as that.

For a guy whose fans constantly describe as "classy" you think he would be a man and accept the defeat, instead of acting like a cheerleader to get the Staples Centre crowd on his side, having his people start a scuffle in the ring, walk around shouting "no, no, no" like Amy Winehouse and generally showing no class in defeat, whatsoever.

The only way to beat Vitali Klitschko is by injury. He is going to crush the weak chinned Gomez.

I think he took it really badly.

Then again, it was the biggest fight he had ever (or will ever) have, so having performed really well for 5 rounds would have been gutted, and in truth probably not really thinking straight.

I think Lennox would have stopped him in the 8th/9th round, whilst he was blowing, Vitali was also......

-No one likes to lose, especially by Dr's stoppage. Vitali didn't take it well, and I think a lot of it was concern for his rep, particularly after the Byrd fight. What makes it worse is that he still calls out Lewis, which is ******ed.

-Lennox landed about the hardest upper cut of his life, and Vitali took it fairly well.

-As far as Lewis being out of shape for that fight, it's a complete bull**** excuse. This may be the only fight ever with people claiming that the guy given short notice (Vitali) had the advantage of the guy who was already scheduled to fight on that date (Lennox).

-I agree, Lennox won by legit TKO

    -When will this topic die-off?

I do laugh at the nuthuggers calling Lennox 'fat' for that fight. The man is 6'5" tall an extra 5 pounds is nothing. Fat is what James Toney looks like. For Lennox to be 'fat' he would have to weigh 280 at his height.

Vitali should get down on his knees and thank Lennox Lewis daily for coming into that bout rusty, unmotivated and out of shape.

If it wasn't for these conditions, Vitali would have absolutely nothing to brag about during his heavyweight career.

lighten up on the big guy, hoya-uk.

Before anything else, his fans would admit that he is a fierce competitor. This is what you're seeing. he came so close to fulfilling a lifelong dream in defeating a great Champion to win the biggest title in sports.

Keep in mind, it took him great effort just to get a title shot from Lennox. He even went as far as taking lennox to court to try and get a title shot...then to see it slip away.

That has to be tough for any man to deal with.

Lennox was billed to fight Kirk Johnson and Vitali was billed to fight the dangerous Cedric Boswell.

Both fights would have been tremendous.

To me the fight proved without a shadow of a doubt two things about Vitali Klitschko.

#1 that he had heart after it was questioned because of the Byrd fight.

#2 that he has a hell of a Chin. Merchant even talked before the fight about Steward and Lewis thinking Vitali has a weak Chin because of his brother (Merchant called it guilt by association) and because he had never had to take a punch because of his style.

That vicious uppercut would have KOed 99.5% of Heavyweights.

    Totally agree.

I personally had it a lot closer than the judges with Lewis one point up.
    My mate had it even.

Im sure Vitali could have carried on but he would have ended up badly scarred for life.
Im only suprised the Dr didnt stop it sooner. His face was a mess.

I think Lewis would have gone on to stop Klitschko.

The way Vitali behaved after the stoppage was awful, throwing this toys out of the pram like a 5 year old. Hardly befitting of a champion.

    No dignity and no grace.

I also agree the way he keeps calling Lewis out even 5 years later is pathetic.
Mind you, fighting Lewis again is the only way he'll probably ever get real recognition.
He knows Lewis was the last of the elite fighters left needed to prove himself.

    Unfortunately it'll never happen.

I really dont know who was gonna win if it carried on or without the cut.

Lewis did looked knackered, but he did look ****ed from round 2 pretty much if i remember right where as vitali looked fine and then really noticeably started tiring so maybe he would actually have been worse.

Fact is Lewis busted up Vitali enough to win the fight though. I dont know how people try and deny that considering Vitali had 3 cuts.l

You nearly used the 'That punch would have KO'd anyone' line which you hate..... careful manoevre there :good

That fight proved his heart, I agree it was in serious question after the Byrd fight, when really he could have done what Danny Williams had done years previously and ended up winning by stoppage - granted the gap between him and Byrd was much less than Williams and Mark Potter.

His chin is excellent, not sure that was in question at the time..... but still to take the uppercut and still be standing, never mind co-herent proved that beyond question.

I'm not a nuthugger of Lennox Lewis. But the was clearly fat, how else can you describe it? He literally had rolls of fat on the side of his torso.

With the horrible cut over his eye, who knows who wins the fight. if that cut doesn't distract him, he easily whoops that version of lennox. The first two rounds weren't even close.

That cut wasn't even made by a hard punch...it was made by a glancing blow...the glove just took his skin right off!!

lennox was a lucky man that night. No doubt.

Absolutely horrible piece of **** luck for Vitali, but he should have handled it better given this "classy guy" label that is constantlly attached to him. I disgaree about a late Lennox stoppage, the way Lennox was being bullied and pushed around and then how he slumped exhausted onto his stool at the end of the final round before the stoppage, suggests he was done. I see Vitali KOing him, or Lennox quitting. But who knows.
