You would have favoured Vitali to beat Lewis with half his face torn up?

It's amazing what slumping into ones chair does for peoples perceptions. Apparently Lewis was ready to go because of this jem.

Unlikely. Vitali was in no position to continue, and had it gone on he would not only have lost but suffered serious injury.

Perhaps I should have been more clear, take the injury out of the equation, consider the way the fight was going, and yes I would certainly have favoured Vitali to win. Lennox was being bullied and had thrown everything but the kitchen sink at Vitali. Both men were tired, but Lewis was the most exhausted I had ever seen him during a fight. He didn't just slump onto the stool, he virtually collapsed onto it, personally, I don't see that as a sign he was full of energy and ready to come out in the next round to kick Ukranian arse. It was one of many things relating to Lennox's conditioning that makes me think he was done, if Vitali hadn't knocked him out later on, I think Lennox would have quit on his stool.

Vitaly was winning the fight and Lewis was starting to keep it interesting, but not until after the cut and Vitaly couldn't see out of one eye very well!! Didn't it occur to anyone that the serious cut over Vitaly's eye played a major role in Vitaly's performance from there on????? I always felt that due to the way the fight turned out, a rematch was a must! I always liked Lennox Lewis and still think he had a great HOF career, but that fight did warrant a rematch!!!! It was pretty clear that Lennox did not want a rematch, he was glad to get out of that one on a technicality.

27 perhaps. anyway doesn't negate the fact that he arguably could have beaten lewis and that lewis then retired.

do you really beleive that he's not a world class fighter?

I like Vitali. I believe he is certainly a world class heavyweight. I don't like his lack of humility after the defeat to Lewis. Read my original post, I think Vitali would have beaten Lewis if the injury hadn't been so serious. But at the end of day, it was a fair and legitimate victory, one man busted up another mans face so bad that the fight had to be stopped. I don't believe that a motivated, in-shape Lewis would have lost to Vitali though. The version of Lewis that fought Vitali, yeah certainly possible Vitali would have beat him then, and/or in a rematch.

Who exactly are you talking to? :huh My position is, Vitali was winning, and he probablly would have won, if you take the cut out of the equation.

Lewis is an ATG. He won the fight legitmately. He had a great career and it was up to him, when and how, he choose to retire. He didn't "owe" Vitali a rematch.

no he did not. Look at the pics from the weigh in of the Lewis/Tyson fight and the Klitschko/Lewis fight. There is no difference at all. Like I said fat is someone like James Toney not Lennox Lewis.

An extra 7.25 pounds (the difference between the 2 fights) is NOTHING on a 6'5" athlete.

    This 'fat' issue is sad.

Well if we're throwing things out for the hell of it, then lets throw out Lennox's longest time ever from the ring and make him crisp. Lets throw out his lack of motivation at the tail-end of a great career, and lets throw out the fact he was undertrained for the bout.

    I mean why not?

Uh nope, this was a scheduled fight for Lewis and a short-notice fight for Klitschko.
