Who thinks Bob Papa is at least a decent commentator?

    I think he is terrible. Not because he has an annoying voice and beady eyes like Kellerman, but because he's basically Lampley sedated on a truckload of painkillers. The voice is similar but where Jim can make a mediocre fight sound interesting, Bob makes an interesting fight sound boring. How he got on HBO is beyond me, but then again, so did Kellerman.

    It's interesting to have a former champ like Lennox on the broadcast team, but the team Papa/Kellerman/Lewis is really horrible. Lewis' laid-backness is good when it's "neutralized" by Lampley's excitement. But Papa only makes it worse and then you have Kellerman's screacky voice to complete the awful mixture. I love Boxing After Dark, but that team needs some adaptation!

    He's fine by me. Not my favorite commentator in the world, but he's alright.

    Papa's average but Kellerman is just rubbish. The BAD team of Papa/Lennox/Kellerman just doesn't work. Joe Tessitore (sp?) from ESPN would be a decent replacement for Papa. Not sure who could replace Max.

    I like Papa he's a great commentator IMO....he's alot more laid back then Lampley but to me that's not such a bad thing, infact I'd say it ms the opposite, though I like Jim he needs to chill the **** out sum times, I don't like hearing him screaming all in my ear and **** when I'm trying to cojcentratre on a fight, I mean most the time it don't bother me but sometimes.......

    I agree that team just flat out stinks! But to me Papa is the lesser of 3 evils there.

    Kellerman is just too damm annoying for some reason. His voice is like nails on a chalk board. Maybe he should get in the ring and fight a few times before he's too old... Just to get a little credibility. Maybe he would'nt seem quite as annoying if you knew he'd actually been there once or twice. :!:

    As for LL... God bless him... Great champion... But as Steve Kim says:
    I've tried to give him a chance, but he's just plain awful!
    He's dull and he stumbles over his words every time he opens his mouth!
    He's not getting any better. HBO has to wake up and replace him. :rasta:-(

    I can think of at least 10 former fighters right now who would be WAY better! Guarunteed! :deal

    I'm not a fan. He doesn't have the voice or personality for Boxing, imo. He seems like he'd be better suited for Baseball or Golf.

    Not that i doubt your statement, but which 10 fighters are you thinking of? Briggs for one is outstanding. But i thought Hopkins disappointed a bit. Floyd would only talk about money. To be a good commentator, you have to let go of your big ego (and fighters always have this) to be objective. This is one of the few things in which Lewis excels. He even stayed calm when Lampley was saying stuff like "you think this was a good stoppage, just when you were stopped against McCall?"

    I voted he sucks and that is easy on him IMO.He is absolutely garbage.

    Papa is a decent commentator. He does make mistakes, such as during the Berto-Collazo fight where he kept saying Berto was down in the 1st round, which he shouldn't be making as a play-by-play guy. It isn't necessary for a guy like Papa to be emotional, but he needs to be informative.
