WTF is going on with the Lightweight Division ???

I've just posted a thread questioning why WBA is sanctioning Diaz vs JMM as a WBA SuperChamp title fight when none of these two fighters are a WBA title holder . . . saddest part is they have a legitimate title holder who is being by passed.

Now there's another thread saying that the IBF title will be at stake in a fight between the rated #8 Romanov and Joan Guzman who is not even at the IBF top 15 ratings.

Can somebody explain that ???

 

Guzman is ranked at 7. Others are probably unavailable, Funeka and Angulo just lost, Peterson injured, Julio Diaz fights at the LW tournament, therefore the two highest ranked and available fighters are Guzman and Romanov. I think that's cool.

But the WBA sanctioning Marquez-Diaz is a big fat joke, I agree. It's simply a money reason. I believe all 3 santcioning bodies walked away from the Campbell-Funeka fight without the sanctioning fee, as Nate didn't make weight and Funake didn't win, so the easiest way to make some money on short notice, is to give the title to the upcoming decent money fight, which is Marquez-Diaz.

What an absolute joke that is, corrupt motherf*ers they are all.

It's just the beauty of boxing nowadays.

At least it could be argued that the fighters concerned are some of the very best in the division.

 

Just more proof, if you need any, that none of the sanctioning bodies care about anything except lining their own pockets.
Champion, Super-Champion, Champion Emiritus - they don't care one little bit that they're devaluing their own titles, and the sport in general, as long as they get to fleece fighters for an extra few dollars.

I think it's actually a good decision by the WBA. Hopefully it's the first step towards them scrapping the 'super champ' policy altogether.

 

Romanov should get a shot. He is easily the best in Europe - yet blantantly avoided by everyone the other side of the Atlantic.

 

This kind of **** is going on in all divisions... Not only that but have you seen Women boxing? It's a ****ing joke! I enjoy the fights but the alphabet soups are even worse there! This one girl lost her last 3 title fights(which were her last 3 fights) and was fighting for ANOTHER title!!!

 

Even though I feel there shouldnt be any vacant IBF title fight that doesnt involve Funeka, the IBF is actually following the rules in going down the rankings to the 2 highest available contenders.

The WBA is just making it up as they go along. "Super" champions are indeed "regular" WBA champions that have picked up another belt from the WBC, WBO, or IBF (they do not recognize Ring or the IBO). There has NEVER been a fight before for a vacant "super" champion before. It's laughable.

And fyi to the other poster, the IBF and WBO sanctioning fees were paid for Campbell-Funeka. Nate did not pay a sanction fee to the WBA, because he had vacated it already. But Kushner paid one to the WBA so if Funeka won he would get the WBA belt too.

 

Yo Terry, is it true that Nate was Marquez's 1st choice before he fought Diaz? I read a story somewhere that GBP called you and wanted to work the fight but with Nates BK it was impossible. Something about not wanting DKP involved? I dont know if this is true but i did read it somewhere.

 

angulo is lmw and he won, unless there is a lightweight angulo? do you mean casamayor or diaz, who lost their last fights?
