I havent watched the video but wasnt this after the Morrad Hakkar fight? Merchant was insensed that Hopkins defended his title against this guy who somehow was the mandatory for one of his belts. To be fair Hopkins did the right thing by not allowing the title to be splinttered. But Merchant gave him hell because he thought the fight was a disgrace. To be honest i sided with Hopkins here as Merchant was being nothing more than an anal old fool.
"Lemme tell you somethin' Larry...You get paid for being on TV and doing not much." ****in' right. :yep
I think the title of this thread was invalid. Larry Merchant was humbled, confused and corrected by Bernard Hopkins. In no way was he winning this battle of words or minds. As a matter of fact, Larry's comments were directed towards the sanctioning bodies.
Id say it was pretty even. And i do agree with Merchant that it is embarassing for a big middleweight to be calling out light middleweights that were previously welterweights and below
I'm not a huge Hopkins fan so I'm fairly objective here. Hopkins explanations were completely valid, as if Larry didn't know that allready. If the fight was such a travesty, why the hell did Larry show up, instead he could have staged a rally or boycott outside the arena. He didn't because it was "mandatory" for Larry to work Hopkins mandatory fight. What a Dickatschatsch:-(
This was as close to being "owned in the ring" that Bernard Hopkins has ever come. That being said, Hopkins' rebut was decent.
Hopkins ****ing scorched Merchant's condescending ass. Bernard was 100% right. The only point Merchant made was in reference to calling out JMWs. Hopkins is smart as a whip. No wonder he's such a brilliant tactical fighter.
