    Boxing News (20/2/09 edition):

"Omar Sheika faces childhood role model Roy Jones in Jones' hometown of Pensacola on March 21st. They fight on a pay-per-view show that includes three MMA bouts on the undercard, making it the first time boxing and MMA have combined on a pay-per-view bill."

Will we be seeing more of this type of thing in the coming years?

Good idea or bad idea? / Good for boxing or bad for boxing?

Hopefully not.. seems like a desperate move on behalf of boxing. But I don't think an actual good boxing ppv would have MMA anywhere near it. Example Hatton-Pac ppv

Hey, if they're good fights why not? But I can't see boxing fans want to sit through a lot of that f--ckin ground work. MMA people might like it, but to me its worse than watching John Ruiz.

    That is bad.

I don't mind a bit of MMA myself, but I wouldn't want to see it spliced with boxing on any kind of permanent basis. It would undoubtedly end up diluting the appeal of both.

Hmmm my first thought is that it's not a bad idea, IF the MMA and boxing matches are both quality. I mean, let's be honest, MMA is the sport that has seemed to capture the attention of young people (like 15-30). If some of these MMA fans that don't know alot about boxing were to be exposed to a great boxing match when they normally wouldn't be, how can this be bad for boxing? Might create some new fans.

    Not sure what I think.

MMA seems like it's here to stay, boxing needs all the fans it can get.

One thing's for sure, I wouldn't try to win someone over to boxing by making them watch Jones - Sheika.

keep them separate, they're two different sports. you don't see half a knicks game than half a rangers game

I sure hope not. That's just scary... This better not turn into a fad n **** with MMA fighters being on the undercard of a boxing event. That would ruin it for me.
