Folks, Last night I was reviewing the rough film footage of "Burns-Johnson" from 1908 down in Sydney, Aus.... Jack Johnson looked huge in beating the **** outta the 5' 7" stocky build Tommy Burns... The police finally invaded the ring and halted the bout and stopped the filming in the 14th round---Jack Johnson was Champ.... Now, Ol' Tommy Burns was short but very heavily muscled at 5' 7" tall and roughly 178 to 183 pounds... To me, Burns looked more like a wrestler than a boxer.... Tommy Burns is not regarded as a great former heavyweight champion, however, he was a damn good fighter in his own right.... Tommy Burns had strength and skills in his arsenal..... Question: How do you all feel that a guy like Tommy Burns would do against a modern fighter of limited size but powerful, as well as skilled like Dwight M. Qawi, in a time machine??? Will put the Heavyweight champion Tommy Burns of 1907 against the Cruiserweight champion Dwight M. Qawi of 1985 / '86.... Who wins??? MR.BILL:bbb

Qawi material is EASY to obtain......... Its the Burns stuff that's hard to get a hold of... Still... Size and style wise, I think "Qawi-Burns" is interesting....... Not really sure who'd win....... I love Qawi, but Burns was a tough cookie...... MR.BILL
MRBILL, Burns fought well at different weights. I'm a firm Believer the old skool warriors are better..yet something tells me Qawl would be great in any era.. if I had to bet and I don't bet..I wood bet on Qawi. DRMULLEN
Burns had the mobility to trouble Qawi and was a fine in-fighter in his own right,Tommy glided in and out looking to plant his right hand on the chops,he took a good shot too.Burns can be seen against Squires landing the ko and in two fights in London ,one when he was making a come back . I think I might go for Tommy . Qawi looked sensational against Saad ,but I think Saad was on the down side and the result slightly flatters Qawi,imo.
I think that Burns would flatten virtualy anybody his own size who tried to go toe to toe with him. Against 200 lb heavyweights Burns was a dangerous puncher andainst sombody his own size he was the terminator.
Interesting match up of two tough guys ... Burns had heavyweight power and that might prove effective against Qwai who rarely showed trememdous heart .... still Qwai was a decent but not great puncher but had a pretty good chin ... I like Qwai on volume but who knows ?
A difficult one. Burns was the best HW in the transition period between Jeffries and Johnson in spite of his lack of size. Qawi gave great fighters like Michael Spinks and Evander Holyfield really tough battles. Not to speak of going up to the middle rounds with none other than George Foreman himself. And everyone knows that Foreman was absolute murder for short guys who liked coming in. Qawi had a great jaw and a tremendous heart (!). And he was a constant comer, like Frazier. Forced to make a choice, I pick Qawi to win by a decision.
I too, believe Dwight M. Qawi had plenty of heart and a good chin..... I just reviewed his rematch with Holy from 1987 last night..... Holy was so much more seasoned by late '87, compared to his greeness in mid-'86.... Holy tagged Qawi with some wicked shot in round 4.... The last shot being a perfectly timed counter right to Qawi's jaw.... Qawi went down like he was shot by a .44 magnum..... No shame there..... YES! Qawi looked heavy at 222 pounds for the lean 235 pound George Foreman in 1988, but Qawi still came to fight.... Qawi was overmatched and outgunned, but he took his lumps before quitting in round 7.... Qawi had heart and a chin.... MR.BILL
