Finito is right though. Gonzalez schooled Vasquez for most of their contest. A naturally smaller guy like Vic would crumble under that long armed attack. He wouldn't be able to take as much punishment as Vasquez either IMO. Jesus, I would pick Montiel to beat him. The hype on here is unbelievable.
I don't think Izzy is unbeatable but until he proves otherwise, I'll be on his side of the fantasy fight debates. Doesn't mean Vic doesn't have a good shot at hurting him of course.
I think you're underrating Vic's ability to absorb punishment. Sure he got poleaxed by Donaire, but in 200-plus amateur fights against the best in the world & all his previous pro fights he had never been stopped or put down. On form, you can't say Montiel would beat him. Vic has beaten four genuine top 10 guys in his last four fights.
I too would pick Montiel without hesitation. Montiel has the tools and his style is all wrong for a limited guy like Vic. Montiel knocks him out in a similiar fashion of Donaire.
(1) The headguard and the big gloves probably helped in the amateurs. And Donaire is not a murderous puncher either. (2) I'll admit that Montiel is not consistent enough for my liking, but if he brings his A-game for this fight (which I would expect) then I would confidently back him. (3) I respect Mijares' three wins over Arce (a more competent version than what Vic fought), Munoz and Navarro over a five fight period a lot more.
This fight can happen though ... guys you have to think about this fight actually happening ... Vasquez said that he will give Lopez, Marquez, Caballero, and Darchinyan before moving up to featherweight or super featherweight !!
I would agree. Montiel is one of the best fighters in the world on his night. He absolutely butchered Castillo in what was a pretty even-money fight.
Not only he has been knockout once but he was also put down by Gorres http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGgbxYg42Ms
Darchinyan as much as I don't like him is very unpredicatable ... I thought that Mijares was going to box circles around him and he knocked him out ... I thought Kirilov was going to beat him and he knocked him out. I know that Darchinyan is a one handed fighter w/ limited boxing skills ... but he does have power in that left hand ... and he throws it pretty fast ... Now if the fight took place ... who's to say that Darchinyan wouldn't land a lucky left hand on Vasquez and knock him out ... or get his respect early and win a decision. None of us know how hard this guy hits ... And I know that Vasquez is a boxer ... but when you're in there with a powerful guy anything can happen.
I dont know who the **** you are, and judging from your already few posts here I can already tell you have your nose so far up Darchinyan's ass, anything say about the him should be taken with a grain of salt. Funny you just signed up now just when that sparring session is being talked about and you are making claim you were there. I trust my source more than I do you so **** off.
Thats a good clip ... I forgot about Gorres .. but he's a tough fighter for anyone at or around the flyweight/ light banatamweight divisions. That fight ended in a draw, but many people believed that Gorrez was robbed of a victory.
I think you're being very harsh on Vic. Remember he has fought all these fights on the other side of the world to where he's based. Fighting & winning on the other side of the world is very tough to do - only a handful of fighters have ever done it with any consistency. I think Vic's wins over Irene Pacheco, Cristian Mijares & Arce have all been top class. Vic won a world title at 112 against an established champion on the other side of the world, defended it six times, moved up & won another world title, then unified against a P4P guy. Vic's form atm is as good as anyone out there. You've mentioned Arce, Munoz & Navarro. Vic did a better job on Arce than Mijares. Kirrilov beat Navarro, Vic kayoed Kirrilov. Mijares beat Munoz, Vic kayoed Mijares.
The Pinoy, Gorres, was robbed in the Phillipines? Actually the Pinoy crowd bombarded the ring with objects when Darchinyan got the knockdown because they thought it was a slip. So then when Gorres was on the canvas numerous times late on they were all ruled slips. It could and should have gone for Darchinyan.
Nice dude is probably just some fanatical aussie who bought a **** ton of Darchinyan gear and now thinks hes apart of team Vic because of it.
