U know that fight really shocked me cuz I was rooting for CAstillo and I didn't expect him to lose the way he did. That was a brilliant performance by Montiel but a part of me want to believe that CAstillo got old overnight. But either way, Montiel is one of the best when he's on his A game... He has the style to beat Vic, I know that.
Come on dude, don't be like that. There's no need to swear & carry on just because your source got it wrong. I've got Vic's sparring session with Vazquez on DVD & happened to watch it again yesterday hence my interest in this thread. I've also acknowledged that if I was scoring the rounds, I would have given most of them to Izzy so your comments about my objectivity are out of line.
No-one who has seen the fight with Z Gorres believes Gorres legimately won it. Vic won that fight easily hence the reason I said Vic has beaten four top 10 fighters in his last four fights. I regard Gorres as a top 10 fighter. Vic started the fight with Gorres (in the Philippines) very shakily but finished very strongly going away. He took the form he displayed in the Gorres fight into his next one & the results speak for themselves.
It's pretty clear you are ignorant of what happened in the sparring sessions between Vic & Vazquez and I have set the record straight to the extent that I could. If you want to name-call & sook about it go ahead, but I don't see too many others questioning the accuracy of the account I have given.
You make a lot of good points, and I respect that on this place:good Its a nice change from the usual mud-slinging. But, I think Vic is being severly overrated on here. The funny thing is that all this **** has sprung up much more after his win over Arce, than it ever did for his win over Mijares, which is undoubtedly his signature win. I would still confidently back Montiel to beat him, as well as all the major players at SBW (Vasquez, Marquez, Lopez, Caballero and Cordoba). Vic did not do a better job on Arce than Mijares; on paper he did, but Mijares' points win was a lot more convincing than the bull**** stoppage Vic win. Kirilov and Navaro are about on a power with each other. Munoz is a powerhouse who Mijares handled easily (dodgy scorecards not withstanding). Styles make fights and weight difference does matter. Vic beat Mijares in the stylistic stakes, but the weight will **** him against the SBW's and Montiel is a bad style for him IMO.
Bring the Montiel fight on. I'd love to see Vic have one more fight at 115 - against Montiel. I'm sure Montiel will make the weight if the money is right.
I was torn on that one as well. But I had to respect Montiel for the job he done. He was awesome that night, and if that version of Fernando turns up against Vic then Darchinyan is in the **** as far as I am concenred. Montiel would deliver a beating......I am confident of that.
He can meet Fernando upstairs because Montiel has moved north to BW. No point taking on Hazegawa because that is too much of a high risk - low reward fight for Vic at this stage.
Thanks dude. It's good to see there are some sensible people on the forum who don't spit the dummy when their opinions are disagreed with. Vic lost focus in 2007. All of his performances that year were sub par. Other than that, I think he's had a stellar professional career & as a fan I've derived a lot of enjoyment from seeing him ascend to the ranks of unified world champion. He is the real deal & always has been. At 33, he won't be getting any better from here so if you don't think he's one of the best out there it's probably a bit late for me to change your mind.
Vic's people better match him up carefully because there are a few killers at 118 who would eat him alive. Hasegawa would school him and like D-Mac said, it's too much of a high risk/low reward opponent. Then we have Agbeko and Mabuza who should both come in as the favorite imo. And montiel is now fighting as a bantamweight so I don't see how vic can be successful at 118. I wish Abner Mares would have stayed healthy and active cuz they would matched up nicely.
You don't have to change my mind; Vic makes my top 10 P-4-P list, if that is worth anything (I have him about 8 ). I rate him very highly. I just think Montiel is a bad style match-up for him, and that SBW is a too big a step up as far as weight goes. You're entitled to your opinion as much as I am. Future events will probably prove one of us right or wrong.
