define a good win? If he fights a Vargas or Mayorga quality he can win ,but if he fights anyone better he loses.

Oscar didn't quit. I can't recall if Peter said to quit, or just didn't respond the way that Oscar did. Either way... I don't care if Peter did quit... when you are getting pounded like that, and you have no chance to win.... it's a decision that has to be made sometimes. In cases like that, I blame the corner for not being alert enough to stop the fight themselves. Sometimes a corner NEEDS to step in and stop a fight without the fighters permission. A fighter taking a horrible beating isn't exactly in the right frame of mind to make great decisions for himself.

I think a lot of people are skeptical of Oscar's comments because he has been so fake in the past. That being said and I am certainly no DLH fan but I believe him in this instance. I think he knew it was going to be his last fight and he wanted to go out on his shield.

Peter told his corner he was done.

... and understandably so. If his corner weren't all half ******ed they would have been telling him that instead.

Well Oscar is being honest. I believe what he says, although saying he wants to be knocked out means mentally he was quitting and needed an excuse to just go down. So the fact he stayed on his stool makes sense now.

He was sitting on his stool because it was in between rounds. The corner stopped the fight, as Oscar didn't respond back to their questions. He left it up to them, and they made their decision. Which was the right decision.

Peter told his corner he'd had enough, if memory serves me right. Oscar didn't respond which equates to the same thing. Watch the video, he'd had enough but in my opinion there's no shame in that when you're at the tail end of your career and you just can't compete any more - it happened to Ali too, remember. I never bashed Peter for quitting against VITLAY and I won't 'seriously' bash Oscar for quitting like that against Pac....well not unless it's to get a reaction of course :hey

As quittages go it wasn't in the same league as Rahman against Toney or VITLAY against Byrd, for sure.

Oscar is a caricature of a boxer.

That's the point, he knew what they were going to do and never argued with them. He wanted out of there, no doubt about it.

I don't find a problem with any of those... or Sugar Ray Robinson quitting due to heat exhaustion, ect... When a fighter knows that something isn't right, health is much more important than a fighters perception. The only sort of quitting that I think is horrible is quitting out of frustration... or just quitting because you aren't winning type stuff. Like Roberto Duran vs SRL.... or like Derrick Gainer flat out refusing to fight against JMM.

Well half ******ed is a good way to describe Peter's corner. McKinley was trying to push poor Peter back out there. :rofl:patsch

Bottom line, as I said before the fight, Oscar CANNOT make 147lbs and be a healthy fighter. At 154lbs he is a much different man, and a dangerous one at that.

I see what you are saying. However, I don't feel that it's the same thing. Difference being that if Oscar's corner didn't stop the fight, Oscar would have went back out and fought. If a fighter quits... than he isn't going back out no matter what his corner does.

Oscar did NOT put up any complaints on the stoppage. Do you honestly believe that in a fight of this stature, they would not check w/o Oscar before? You don't stop the big boss w/o his permission. He was obviously in agreement w/ the stoppage.
