Come on now. We can argue the semantics of "quit" all night, but I'm pretty sure Oscar wasn't bouncing on his toes raring for more when this fight ended.

 

Maybe because he was sitting on his stool... because it was in between rounds?:huh I never said that he was bouncing on his toes "raring to go", did I? Not too many fighters are when they are getting their head beat in. However, there is a difference between Oscar act just like a boxer who is getting beat badly, and him being a quitter. Just because Oscar didn't beg his corner not to stop the fight as they were all telling him for 2 rounds that they were going to stop it... doesn't mean that he quit. He left the decision up to them, and they made the right decision. Simple as that.

his corner suggested and then asked him several times about stopping the fight, they gave him more than enough opportunities to simply say that he wanted to keep fighting but he made no effort to show that he wanted to continue. put that along with his complete lack of effort in the fight itself in the last 2 or 3 rounds.

Oscar quit and it is what it is. if he really wanted to get knocked out, he wouldve stayed in like Morales did against Pacquiao.

I find it amusing, all these macho type ESB posters, saying negative things about Oscar because he "quit", the man has achived incredible things in his career, of which he is right at the very end. Oscar has a wife and children, a legacy and a career outside of the ring - but you guys think he should risk all that and perhaps a serious and permenant injury, for some astract sense of honour? You think he should have stayed and took more of a sevre beating, when it was clear he was seriously weight drained and had no chance to win? Come on, be realistic, this is Oscar De La Hoya, he has proved his heart a million times over, why risk everything for absolutely nothing in return?
