The best version of Winky was the more experienced version, so i'll consider that one for fairness reasons, i feel his prime was 154 and Mike's maybe alsoi, but i'll igonore that for the thread. To not bring something other than one gameplan can potentially be your undoing against Winky, if he sets the pace he counters and hits you when you're not doing anything, then counters when you try and hit him back. If McCallum comes to him with the leading, even with his great skills i feel he may get outboxed. But i do think McCallum can win this one mixing it up and using some movement, countering himself. A controversial decision is likely on the cards, but i'll pick McCallum as i feel he has more to offer and was greater for me.
winkys one punch at a time high gaurd defense would be worthless agianst a guy like mike .,..he's gonna be burrying hooks into wrights guts and hitting his elbows with shots...mike will hit anything he can .. i just seem him eating wright up alive in there ..too much work
I think Mike's better all around ability would see him through in the end, but Winky would give him hell all the way.
I think Mccallum would stop winky around 9.He had the skill to get past wright`s defensive style and hit hard.He would slow Wright down and then start getting the big punches in.
Winky takes this.Remember in his prime Winky employed alot of lateral movement along with a high guard and Winky was faster then Mccallum.
I am not sure Mike would win this. He lost to Kalambay at 160 in 1988, and this would be a great style matchup in favor of Winky. Kalambay moved more, but Winky would control Mike with the jab. Mike liked guys who punched and were aggressive so he could counterpunch. Winky was not a good matchup for him.
I think Wright is a lot more comparable to Watson than kaalmbay in terms of his stylistic approach, which wouldn't bode well for him in some eyes perhaps. He'd do better than most seem to thnk however imo, losing a 7-5 or 9-6 decision.
Winky's lack of lateral movement and any varied offensive arsenal outside of the jab would make him an ideal opponent for McCallum IMO. Kalambay was much quicker and more mobile than Winky, which is what gave McCallum so many problems.
yeah maybe you are right. I was thinking about Winky boxing and Mike going around the outside and working his body punches around Winky's defense.
