I am a big fan of Thomas Hearns, but this is a big mistake. He is 50 years old. Can't the boxing commissions stop him from fighting?

Thomas Hearns should not be going anywhere near a Boxing ring.

I agree. As much as I liked seeing him fight when he was young, he cannot have any of the skills he used to. When someone is 40 they can fight a little maybe, but at 50 that is just ridiculous, especially when they are not heavyweights. Heavyweights could maybe fight at 50 because of the slow pace, but below that the guys are making a weight and are sharp and much younger. Steward is not going to train him for this like the article says he wants him to.

you see, i look at this differently from everyone else it seems...

i think somone like thomas hearns has earned the right to do this if he wants...and...
in his last fight 3 years ago, hearns beat Shannon Landberg...so does that mean that landberg and every boxer landberg beat should never be allowed to box again...hearns has prooved he's better than that level, old as he is..

Should he be banned? No. He knows the risks and knows that he could get hurt.

Why can't he retire? I think his son having a high-profile career doesn't help and there is obviously a lot of envy. Thankfully his fight will receive little or no TV coverage and we wont have to see a true legend and all time great tarnish our image of him.

50 years old is too old. When he was 40 and fighting it seemed a little more reasonable to finish up his career, but now we are almost 30 years since he won his title from Cueves. I would love to see him win a title and retire, but how can that happen? To be sharp against a fighter who has been active, he needs to fight 2-3 fights and get some rounds in.

My initial reaction would be a resounding NO!!!!
But with some fighters it's all they know and so make's it very hard to walk away.
What does Hearns have in his life outside of boxing he must truly be empty to want to come back and fight again at 50.
If i were Tommy i would forget about fighting again and try to get behind Ronald and guide him to greatness although i don't know what kind of relationship they have.

  10. Well there you go .. Calzaghe will fight again. Gotta get those ATGs any way you can get them. Better late than never.

Tommy has done this before. More than a few times. He gets the itch, has a fight, then goes away for a few years. He picks soft opponents but still has to dig deep as he's just a shell. Gotta admire his spirit though.

come on peeps he isnt fightign to be a champ he just likes to get in the ring...as wansen says it's "the itch" and it's best to scratch it in the ring.

he can look after himself and isnt a bum he still has some moves...somone uploaded the landberg fight on youtube and honestly hearns did a very good job for age, wieght and agaisnt a solid enough opponant.

Jeff Fenech and Nelson went round 1 year ago and I think the are late 40's....Maybe Herns should fight Haglar, lenord or Camacho...good old masters fight.
