Toney was operating outside the rules so it scarcely matters what he did with Ruiz.

And his result with Rahman was also lawfully overturned.

He has little by way of achievement at HW, and was the beneficiary of a belated Christmas present last time out.

(Although, I will agree that being able to beat any top ten HW is an accomplishment for a former MW).

Holy lost a fight he had no right to have earned in the first place.

IMO, Valuev lost two. The fight was so bad that they should both have been awarded a loss.

(Like the NJ beauty contest -with apologies to Rummy- where there was no winner.)

Neither man is a factor at HW, and for their own good, they should both be rocking on their porches.

I would like to see Toney against a "LIVE" fighter like Alexander Povetkin, Eddie Chambers, or David Haye.

I watched Toney since the early 90's si I know how he used to speak. Like I said before, his speech has deterioated a little bit but not that much. He still soounds relatively Ok in that interview to me.

Toney is an ATG, no doubt.

Great resume and the fact that he is regularly competitive at heavyweight while starting out 157 in his mid 30 to early 40's earn him that spot.Who has done that, you tell me?

Haye Vs Toney would be one of the better fights at heavyweight.

O hell yes, the smart slick old ATG against the up and coming fast athletic youngster, what an interesting match-up! I was certain Toney would school Haye because Hayes style is tailor-made for Toney, but after seeing Toneys disappointing performance against Oquendo (where Toney pulled it out by one point only imo) I am not so sure about it anymore. Nevertheless I'd be an interesting fight.

Have you even seen the fight? Labeling Toney as a 'fat ****' already betrays you as an unobjective hater...

This has been discussed to death, and while it can be argued that Oquendo may have deserved the nod, this fight certainly didn't have a clear winner. Neither man looked good. I had Toney up by a point (114-113), because of Oquendo (rightfully) being deducted a point, however a good friend of mine who's a Toney fan too and knows a lot about boxing and scoring fights had it the other way round (114-113 for Oquendo). I guess we can say the fight could've gone either way, it wasn't a robbery...

And Oquendo probably deserved a rematch, true, HOWEVER, because of the bitchy way his team behaved after that fight, I wouldn't give them a rematch if I was Toney and move on to more meaningful fights.

I can understand how some people don't like Toney because of his 'straightforward' personality and hot temper (when the cameras are off Toney is actually a nice friendly and funny guy as long as you are cool with him, everybody who knows him will affirm this - and you can see it too watching that interview), but it is beyond me how many so-called boxing fans here on this site don't respect the man.

Some facts: James Toney has 80 pro fights against mostly good to great opposition, he boxed more than 600+ pro rounds from MW up to HW and fought a 'who is who' in every division. He's never been stopped in his entire career. Which other active boxers have done that?
These facts speak for themselves, if you can't respect that then go back watching WWE.

Toneys last showings and his roid use in the Ruiz and Batchelder fights may have been very disappointing, true, and it may be better for him to retire now as his run at HW seems to go nowhere, BUT STILL: he is one of very few legends still active in the sport and should be respected for that. Boxing will be poorer the day Toney finally retires. If you criticize him, fine, but do it objectively.

I think Toneys smack talking - and he does that a lot has much to do with many not liking the guy. Yeah - he's a great fighter - no doubt about it, but he is past his sell by date - he's not gonna beat a heavyweight champion and become world champ anymore - thats gone - he slurs his words and talks delusionally about what he's gonna do. Sam Peter CLEARLY beat him in the 2nd fight. Vitali OWNED Sam Peter...how on earth would he beat any of the Klits? He'd get his ass handed to him and I'd expect his first KO loss...to either of the Klits. I'd even expect Haye to KO him...but none of these fights are ever gonna happen. He's wasting his time and all he got left is his talk. Few believe he can fulfill his promises anymore.

I agree that Toney does have very little chance against WLAD.

But I highly doubt Toney would be KOD aganst Haye. In fact, I expect Toney to KO the loudmouth. Haye has not proven anything at heavyweight.

Like it or not, Toney is still a player in today's heavyweigt division which is very weak. Toney is between TOP 5- TOP 15 heavyweight right now. Like you said, he only lost to Peter who was clearly outboxed by Toney in the first fight.

Toney needs a big fight right now: Haye, Tony Thomposon, Areola would be good.
