He said himself that he sees himself losing more than winning against Monzon, and Marx knows how egoistical B-Hop is.

I have him in my top 5, behind Greb, Robinson, Hagler and Monzon.

Most people have Robinson, Greb and Monzon in their top 3. I have no problems with people putting Hopkins at 4 or 5, as he is interchangeable with Hagler.

I have read the interview where he says he sees himself losing that fight against Monzon more than winning and he says Hagler and himself would both end up in the hospital if they fought. Hopkins is egotistical but he is a smart man and recognizes great champions. I think it would be a great fight. The matchup between Monzon's jab against Hopkins counter right hand would be very interesting. I like his chances against Monzon better than Hagler's.

Hopkins was more consistent than Robinson. Even though Sugar was slightly past his best for some of his middleweight reign he still lost there when he was pretty close to his prime. I would have to say Hopkins is the greater middleweight.

Most people have Hagler above Robinson at middleweight.

If Monzon's career ran parallel however Hopkins would be dancing to a different tune. He has immense respect for Middleweight icons such as Monzon and Hagler. This respect doesn't mean of course he would lose in the ring. Picking fights between well matched greats is a lottery.

Jones only made the MW limi around the same number of times that Hopkins defended his title, and if I remember, only had two title fights himself.

Head to head he's a force, no doubt, but he's not in a top 15 all-time MW list, not at all.

For his ability to win fights, he is in the top 15 or so. For his ability to be an interesting fighter, the kind of fighter you root for, the kind of fighter that excites you, he is way way down the list.

Hopkins may be a great fighter ,but you can't prove it by his resume at 160 lbs, imo.

BIG DEE HERE= Hopkins fought in the worst middleweight division in my lifetime and thats 54 yrs. The division that he fought in Hagler would have destroyed them one after the other. Hagler and Monzon would have had a field day KOing them. Both of them would have been defending their titles 6 and 7 times a year against the competition that Hopkins fought as not one fighter he defended against even came close to a Emile Griffith
Nino Benvenuti or a John Mugabi and Tommy Hearns. Bottom top 20 around number 17th
    all-time.

*Urges the poster to review most of his title defenses up until, and including, the Trinidad fight.*

Hopkins really didn't become truly a safety-first, conservative fighter until later on in his career.
