If this fight comes to fruition, I wonder if Clottey takes a tune up first being that he hasn't fought since the beginning of last August. :think
No he will not. Clottey will go into some very hard training, just how he did vs Judah. His 100% focus will be on this fight.
Yeah isnt that what Vargas' people did with him?? **** let him fight..vargas was done in his mid 20's. No one wants to see Cotto get ruined, Im not saying that he should fight bums, but they need to be smart in rebuilding him...Fighting someone like Clottey that will walk though his shots and will be so much bigger and Stronger then Cotto isnt a smart fight right NOW...Smart would be Cintron or berto...This by the ways isnt driven by anything other then Arum wanting to make sure that he has a top fight that will some out of this deal....Its the reason that I KNEW that it would be the most likely fight from Arum after the whole thing with Margo...Either way Arum is a winner.
cotto vs clottey is the best fight they can make (evenly matched & means the most to the welter weight division) cotto vs cintron is the most logical as far as getting cotto's confidence back ( easy win ) cotto vs berto will be better a year or 2 from now ( two prime welters fighting for belts) just choose what you prefer to see
I agree...I think the Berto fight should happen down the road! I mean, Berto needs some more fights before he fights someone like Cotto-The crowd in NY is always hostile the day b4 the Puerto Rican Day Parade and I'm not sure Berto could handle that to well! Cintron is an easy victory IMO...BODY SHOT!!!
Referee:1.....2.....3.....4.... Cintron (kneeling on the canvas after getting hit with a left hook to the body from Cotto): "It was a low blow!" Referee: 5....6....7.... Cintron (crying): "Thats bull**** it was a low blow!"
The guy lost his belt to another champion. It was a very competitive and exciting fight. Then he fought a really easy tune-up fight to get his confidence back and see where he is, and he actually picked up a loose strap in the process. Now it's time for him to earn that reputation of being such a god that everyone here makes him out to be. How many confidence builders and tune-up fights do you think he needs? Let him fight "The Hitter." Now.
I'd like to see this fight right now. Makes sense for Cotto to take on a solid contender who he'd be favored against to get his confidence back while all the dust settles right now after the big upsets by Mosley and Pacquiao. My thoughts are basically that Clottey is a good fighter who would be very game, but would lose by wide UD or possible late rounds KO if he gasses badly by the later stages of the fight. Clottey is world class, no doubt about that, but he's not quite as good as some of his biggest supporters think he is. He'd get beat by the very best the welterweight division has to offer and Cotto is among the very best.
Clottey's defense gives everybody problems, add to that a strong chin and the fact that he's a big welterweight. Cotto will be in for a long tough fight, but that's what he needs right now to regain the momentum he had coming in to the Margo fight.
Clottey make no sense(or dollars).Cotto vs Cintron in NYC during PR weekend is the ticket to go.Clottey can't draw flies and is a very dangerous dude. There is no upside so let him keep his title and fight on undercards of the bigger stars of the sport.
