Interesting that he lies fault at the feet of both teams, but not the fighters. Perhaps a balanced article?

Am I the only one surprised that the purse is so small for this fight?

Middleweight has fallen hard if a fight for the undisputed title rakes in so relatively little.

Frankly, it would probably make more money if the fight was in Germany. I get the feeling that Abraham generates more revenue in Germany than Pavlik does in the US.

That is what the folks across the pond have been telling us. It just came out recently that AA gets about $800K per fight. He was able to offer Sturm $2.5 because that fight would be much bigger in Germany. But given the $800K figure, I have to believe he isn't holding Arum's feet to the fire for that $800K and $2mill on top of it. But between Saurland and Arum..........

It's all a negotiation ploy - no one starts with the purse they think they are worth but goes over the top...think of poker.

In the end, 1 millie Euro plus German tv money (which would add up to a gross value of $2 millie as a whole) would be the amount SE tries to get out of this fight.

And Abraham offered Sturm as much as $3.2 million...

Just going by the figures thrown around before the Hopkins fight, this seems to be pretty doable. KP was going to get $2.5 against TBD and the opponent was going to get about $1 or more depending on whose name was attached. Would be nice if HBO/Showtime would announce what they are willing to pay. Kind of put pressure on both sides. I'll have to look at the conversion rate though. OK. That is probably about a 250K difference in money.

you get the numbers wrong. I'm 100% positive that AA gets more than 800 k in $. It is rather 800 k in €, which would make it signifanctly more.

Why do people take anything this fat ******* says seriously?

What the **** would he know about boxing - it's obvious from looking at him that he's never pushed himself physically in his life.

its never about gate revenue - its about the revenue that is generated around the fight from PPV and from casinos at fight time.

why do you think vegas lands so many fights?

Exactly. That's why Abraham left the MW division, because only at SMW he could find a big name enough HBO or this time Showtime was willing to put on, and Miranda happened to be the big rival of Abraham for years, and a former opponent of Pavlik. Now King Arthur only had to deliver BIG, and now let your flashbacks take over how that ended.

You simply can't get a better debut than that, especially with making the very win that put Pavlik in the position for the MW title look pretty bad. The MW division hasn’t become better since then, so there was and there is absolutely no need for a double-header vs. weak opposition, the TV wouldn't care less. HBO didn't even pick up Abraham vs. Marquez, the Mexican who fought Taylor on HBO and Lorenzo on Showtime, because they were only (but very much) interested in going straight for Pavlik-Abraham. They didn’t pick up Pavlik-Rubio either. HBO seemingly isn’t interested in these meaningless fights inlc. the unbeaten Philly fighter Simon, and with no big name opposition WILLING to share a ring with Abraham, Simon is the closest you can get to US interest.

I simply refuse to accept what Arum says, that this fight needs to be built up. Abraham is not asking for multi-millions. Pavlik never was built up to the grand stage, or by HBO to be the next PPV thing. His breakthrough was the Miranda win, and Taylor came IMMIDIATELY after that. Guess what, Abraham did an easier job on Pantera, with a marketing value of ten Simon and Marquez or Rubio fights. As Rafael said, KP-AA "won't be that much bigger at the end of the year than it is right now", and with the public’s memory of the Abraham fading away and Arthur, having very serious problems making 160, is ready to move on to SMW, it’s now or never, in the upcoming 6 months or on a computer game.

Abraham is ready to take less money than he deserves, and fight Kelly in Youngstown or the bigger Cleveland arena Arum is talking about. The fight would pack the house with Kelly’s following. HBO is very interested. What more Arum wants? He just made a $11M guarantee to Pacquiao, so don't tell me Abraham is asking too much. The second Top Rank PPV coming up in a few weeks, and there are shitloads of money to grab in the Hatton-Pacquiao event to throw a few bucks at Abraham. Bob brought Cotto’s and Pavlik’s confidence back this Saturday. Now he should bring back his own confidence as a top promoter, and bring this available fight on.
