Clottey has shown that he does not take body shots well, especially in his fight against Richard Gutierrez.

I remember Gutierrez really hurting him to the body in the early to middle rounds. I think that Cotto has to employ a body first head second approach if this fight takes place.

If he does this along with his using his superior boxing skill and somewhat improved defense he should win this fight easy via late KO to the body or UD.

I like this fight, beating Cintron will prove nothing.

Clottey is bigger and stronger than Cotto. He is a very rough and tough fighter who has quick hands, adequate power, and a sound defense. To beat Cotto you have to take the fight to him. Many of the guys Cotto beats simply wilt under the pressure. Clottey will not wilt. Margo didn't wilt and he beat Cotto. Mosley didn't wilt and he almost beat Cotto. N'Dou(who has very little actual talent) didn't wilt and he gave Cotto a relatively competitive fight. Clottey has the ability to fight Cotto both on the inside and the outside. And he'll need to do both against Cotto.

From my perspective, many Cotto fans are delusional. They have an inflated opinion of Cotto and make him out to be much better than he actually is. Many Cotto fans thought he would steam roll Margo and we all saw what happened there. Cotto is not the biggest WW, he's not the hardest to hit, and he doesn't have the best chin. If you can apply pressure to Cotto, withstand his fire, and apply some punishment yourself, you can beat him. Clottey has all the tools to do this. Now Cotto is an excellent fighter, and can definately beat Clottey. However, I believe Clottey has all the tools needed to beat Cotto as well.

Clottey would just have to fight his fight by walking Cotto down and countering. That said I favor Cotto by UD based on work rate. Clottey's tendency to become over defesive will probably hurt him against Cotto. Like you said Cotto's body punches should be a key in this fight seeing how Clottey holds his guard up high.

I will be honest I thought Cotto was capable of hurting Margo, and he obviously was not. But Clottey's preassure is not Margarito's pressure by any stretch of the imagination. Although I must say that Clottey's hand speed is underated, I know that it will be a good fight. Cotto all the way here.

Since he has a good turtle shell defense, just keep up his guard and pressure like Margo did. Im not sure how well Clottey throws uppercuts, but that could be a big factor.

I think Cottos handspeed will be the difference and he will just go to the body early and then just pound on Clotteys face later in the fight...

Seemed to take 'em alright against Margarito. Unlike some other fighters.

good post:good im shocked at the level of fanboyism towards cotto to me he's a good fighter but far from complete as some people make him out to be probably the most overrated on these boards

Cotto UD's Clottey. Clottey is not as fast as Cotto, does not hit harder then Cotto and doesnt move as well as Cotto. His shell defense will help in his down fall since he will cover up way too much and not throw enough. Clottey is just not that good a fighter.

    Nice post.

From what ive seen, Clottey does wait too much and with his high guard is open to the body to easily.

You are right, it depends on the gameplan.
