How Cotto will beat Clottey!

Anyone that thinks coutering Cotto will give Clottey the victory is delusional. One point that has been neglected so far are Cotto's powers of recovery. Given the chance, Cotto recovers very well from solid shots, this is Clottey will lose in a similair fashion to Judah and Mosley. Margo shown that to beat Cotto, you have to stay on him and beat him with sheer punch output. Judah was hurting Cotto bad with uppercuts and straight rights, but he couldn't sustain his attack because he could deal with Cotto's powerful counters, same goes for Shane. It's no coincidence that when Shane did force the fight in the latter rounds against Miguel he had his most sucessful spell in their fight.

As much as I hate to agree with anything that Joel Judah has to say, he did sum things up perfectly when he said to Zab, I think it was at the end of the 8th, that "you have to hit this ****er". He was right, that right there is the key to beating Cotto, and to be able to do so, you have got to be prepared to ignore some vicious counters, Margo manged it, Mosley managed it to an extent, but too late. Clottey might well be able to take Cotto's best shots, but he simply won't throw enough to keep Cotto off him. I say that Cotto takes this fight by fighting the same as he did early against Margo, throwing repeated combinations to Clottey and moving away before Clottey can mount any serious attack.

 

Yeah, you're right, countering your opponent can't win a fight.

 

i think cotto can out point him, i just think he needs to watch for uppercuts.he has always had problems with that punch.from the 140 days and in the judah and margo fights.clottey can throw wicked uppercuts followed by double or triple hooks to the head or body.

so this will be another tough fight for cotto, a fight that cold go either way.but ill will go with cotto.but josh can get it done, hes problem a big problem.this will be a fight that i will be watching.

 

OK, hypothetical situation. Fight goes 12 rounds, Cotto is constantly busy, throwing numerous combinations and powershots each round, similair to the first 6 rounds against Margo. In opposition to the odd counter from Clottey, not too disimilair in how he fought Judah. You're the judge, who do you give the points to?

 

It depends on if Cotto is landing those shots, or if those shots are hitting all gloves & arms.

 

Cotto will win by kissing the canvas and repeating "there's no place like home" in spanish.

 

Considering that Cotto is renowned for landing 50% or more of his power shots in the majority of his fights, in addition to a very effective jab, I think we can suggest that he will land, maybe not at will given Clottey's good defense, but he will certainly lend enough to catch the judges eyes.

 

Actually, it doesn't matter if he lands or not. If he's making contact, the ******ed judges will give him credit for the punches. But I doubt if Clottey lets Cotto take to him all nite. Clottey is bad for Cotto man.

 

Clottey has a good defensive guard and he explodes when given the opportunity ... and Cotto will stop punching at some point in time ... and Clottey will be the pressure fighter.

History shows that Cotto doesn't respond well to pressure ...

 

Totally agree. Bascially Clottey has a punchers chance but thats about it. Because anyone who can make Maosley back off and also out box mosely is not going to lose a descision to Clottey nor is he going to sustain enough damage to wear down. He might of course get caught like he did in many of his fights and Clottey does have the ability to finish him if he does but to expect him to win simply because he has a chance to knock Cotto out is getting carried away.

 

I'll agree Clottey is bad for Cotto but to be frank because of his vulnerabilities almost every top fighter is bad for Cotto and he seems to do okay against most of them. Also to answer you previous question, if all clottey is doing is countering he still won't be landing the harder ppunches. Generally when they give it to the counter puncher it is b/c his shots harder. That pretty tough to do with Cotto. And if Cotto is landing more punches pretty sure he'll wear Clottey down.

 

Sometimes counters are the hardest punches, cause sometimes you don't see them. Clottey may catch Cotto with something and have him on ***** st.
