Banks said Steward had "travel problems". I bet ya'll anything we see Steward on tonights HBO fight with Baby Bull and Marquez. :deal I always like Steward, but picking his HBO $$ over helping his fighter in a World Title fight (including the RING belt!), would be kind of lame IMO. The very first time Andy Lee caught my attention a couple years ago, he was on a televised (not HBO or Showtime, maybe ESPN or Versus) undercard, and I thought: "Damn, that's Steward there with that guy! WTF is he doing there?" and the arena had yet to fill at all is what caught my attention. Don't remember the opponent but Andy starched his ass.
I think manny may be going a bit senile in his older state. It seems as though he doesn't show as much love for his homebase fighters anymore. He seems to love his imported fighters too much. Must be the money
IMO, it shows he had NO faith in his fighter and didn't want to harm HIS OWN image by being in a losing corner.:verysad Hate to say that, like I say I have always liked Manny, but that's some ol' Bull right there.
I said I wasn't complaining about the stoppage. I enjoyed seeing Adamek finish him off. But you have to consider a fighters safety in the ring & that dude was in no shape to defend himself. Thats why the ref says before a fight to "defend yourself at ALL times" & Banks was in lala land after being dropped.
if they stopped every gatti fight because he was hurt like that, we would have never seen his amazing wars. fighters get hurt and come back...it happens...its a world title fight....i saw nothing wrong with it
Exactly. One of the best calls by a ref that I've seen in a long time. He let the fight go to its NATURAL conclusion.:yep
At the 1:50-1:51 mark in the YouTube (around that point): Golota gets tagged with a bomb from Bowe. You can see him visibly affected by the punch. That was the moment right there, IMO, that changed a career. That was the breaking point for Andrew, I am convinced in my own mind.
from what i seem to remember...when hes was counting to 10 at around 8 banks was up but wasnt even facing him and was wobbling but the ref pulled him by the hands and turned him round.......and then said he was fit to continiou. Was this only me????????:huh
The guy was on his feet. Cotton did what refs SHOULD do. If I guy is standing and holding his hands up, the fight should continue, to its natural conclusion. It is so REFRESHING to see a ref let a fight end the way it was meant to end, instead of interfering with the action. What is endlessly disturbing, however, is that modern boxing fans actually COMPLAIN about this. atsch In my day, boxing fans complained when refs DIDN'T let fights go to their natural conclusion. It's unbelievable to me how wimpy boxing fans have become. Don't like violence? Watch tennis.
Cotton turned him around to face Adamek...that's what he's saying. That said Cotton has a great stache and that's enough for me.
I loved the call. I say great job to Cotton. If he called the fight half of you fools would be complaining that he stopped it too early. I wish more refs would stop treating fighters like little girls especially in championship fights. Ask banks if he woulda preferred the fight to be stopped? Even after the brutal KO he would most definetly say hell no he wants every chance possible to take that title as would any fighter.
:happy:happy:happy agreed. people that complain that the fighter was hurt or could be hurt are morons. they are in a boxing ring getting punched in the face. they are going to get hurt during a fight. its a PAIN business. fighters come back all the time from a good wack attack. the ones that dont are either KOd like banks or fight gets stopped before they get a chance.
Cotton should have been fired after the disgusting bias he showed in Lewis v Tyson. People have forgotten how awful he was in that fight, and it has never been made a big issue out of because Lewis won anyway. But at about round 6 I seriously thought Cotton was going to DQ Lewis, it was shameful refereeing.
