Is the JMM the Mexican boxing torch bearer?

An obvious question? If not who is? And once JMM retires who will it be passed on to?

Ortiz is fighting some Argonaut dude in my hometown of San Jose Ca this saturday. Ill be there for sure and I could definitely see Victor gaining a tittle soon and Oscar putting a card with Marquez Vs Ortiz some time in the future.

 

Ortiz is in tough with Mighty Mike. Much tougher fight than Vivian Harris.

As per his successors? It's either Juan Diaz (who shouldn't be discarded because of what happened tonight), Alfredo Angulo or Vicious Victor Ortiz. It SHOULD have been Abner Mares but injuries ****ed that p.

 

I felt blessed to watch the match against Diaz. Marquez is great for boxing and is the current best Mexican fighter and one of the best ever!

 

When he retires, it'll be Izzy Vazquez.

 

JMM, but unfortunately he is on the downside of his career (as far as longevity is concerned), and his brother is a bit long in the tooth also. Izzy is in the same boat. Victor Ortiz isn't Mexican. He may be of Mexican descent, but not a true Mexican.

The only ones that come to mind are Abner Mares and Antonio DeMarco. However, we will see how good they become in the next few years.

 

Its all fun.... Mexicans and Mexican Americans get along really well outside the ring. When a Mexican American fighter is fighting someone else the full blooded Mexicans will support him. The same with a full blooded Mexican fighting some one else. The lines only get drawn when its a Mexican against a Mexican American. I don't see the problem, you are making it out to seem like something that its not.

Its not much different than broklyn vs Philly rivalry.

 

Pretty much. He is prob the last of them elite mexican. some of the mex/mexamericans are either good prospects or arent in his level. Mijares should have been there but he loss.

he is for around several years now. mexicans loved margarito after beating cotto but jmm is still the man.

 

I consider Victor Ortiz a true Mexican, just like most Caucasians or African American dudes would refer to him. All Mexican Americans are talked about as being Mexican.

The way I look at it is that the Mexican/Mexican American community is yet to be accepted (and probably will never be) to the American culture.

Therefore I consider Ortiz a Mexican, and the next Mexican boxing torch bearer.
