I know there are some differences between then but the similarities are uncanny. Big right hands, technically sound, combination punching. Devistating hooks to the body. Both fighters get stronger as the fight goes on. Both champions at 126, 130, and 135. They stay active and call out the best. JMM faster, Arguello more durable and hits harder.

JMM reminds me of Arguello and that is certainly not a bad thing.

I see what you are saying but I would be hesitant to say Marquez was the modern day Arguello. Alexis fought very different - his punches were straighter, and he had devastating power no matter what weight class he delved into. Whereas Alexis would struggle with a boxer, Marquez would get the better of one, contrary to bull**** scoring. I do see what you are saying, but the differences are so dramatic that I would not make such a comparison.

It is wierd cause Arguello struggled with the boxers. He didn't have the speed to cope with them but you put a pressure fighter in front of him and he would kick your ass. Marquez is the complete oppossite. They look very similar the way they fight though. I have watched a lot of tape of both and some of the stuff Marquez does. Especially the left hook to the body I say "that is textbook Arguello."

Sometimes watching his combinations I'm reminded of Argeullo.

Alexis Arguello would have destroyed Diaz last night, but that is no slight on either Marquez or Diaz. Alexis was a very special fighter, who just liked it more when he had a target in front of him. Uppercuts, left hooks, and the straight right hand would be bouncing off Diaz's face until he could no longer take them.

When he lets his hands go, he does have similarities to Arguello.

Otherwise, it's difficult to see the resemblance.

Alexis was more complete, sharper punch, sturdier chin.

It wouldn't take that long either I would say he stops Diaz in 4 rounds. Arguello would have destroyed Hatton too. Now a fighter like Hector Camacho would have given Arguello fits with the speed and angles while I think Marquez would have picked him apart. I said there are certainly differences between then. JMM was faster, that plus his timing gives the boxers trouble while Arguello had the chin and power to tame the pressuring style.

I agree. While JMM is great Arguello has established himself as one of the 30 greatest fighters ever and a top 3 130 lb fighter all time.
