Of course he's P4P#1. People forget that no2 became no1 only after Mayweather retired, PacMan didn't won it from Floyd. Everybody moved up a place, just like when Roy got beat or Calzaghe retired. What I'm saying is that there wasn't a big gap between Pac and Marquez after their second fight anyway, so as the official result was PacMan by decision, and he went on beating David Diaz and DLH, he obviously earned/stayed at the top spot. Now that Marquez KO'd lineal LW champion Casamayor and no#1 fighter Juan Diaz, he's taking over. It's pretty simple. And when/if PacMan beats Hatton, he'll be no1 again. I previously said that Hatton would take over no1 if he can beat PacMan, but JMM's win was so dramatic and quality, that now I don't see Ricky doing it, unless he does it just as dramatic. I'd add, that P4P is just a subjective list anyway, it has no real significance, at least today, with people not asking on the streets 'who's the best boxer?'. So before Pac fans start to argue, again: with quality wins, you can simply take over, that's what JMM did, and Pacquiao has the right quality fight to take it back. But for me, there's no standout guy in boxing, if something, the PacMan-JMM II fight will tell you that. I consider PacMan, JMM and Hopkins the top elite fighters today. Of that 3, JMM did something special most recently, so if you want to make an order, he should be 1st for now.
I don't think JMM overtakes Pac for the P4P#1..At the time JMM KO Casa and JD, they were leading in one card and draw in another card while JMM leads in one card, that means JMM had a hard time between two opponents than expected, where he is a wide favorite....If pac loses to Hatton, then thats the time JMM will be #1......IMO
I think this display confirms JMM as one of the best two fighters in the world today....but I'd have to put Pacquiao just in front. Purely because you can't ignore the fact the Pacman got the decision over Marquez last time they fought. But if they were to fight again...at this stage: impossible to pick a winner. Surely it will happen. The only thing is: impressive display though it was, it's perhaps easy to get carried away and forget JMM did look a bit tired at points of this fight. In otherwords, at 35 years old time is ticking. You get the feeling if the third installment of the trilogy is to happen, it has to happen soon. However good JMM is, he has to have the split second reflexes and reactions to be able to deal the Pac's combination of speed and youth. JMM ain't getting any younger, and he's been in plenty of wars. Sad though it may seem, JMM's peak can't last much longer. The other thing to bare in mind is: deep down, both these guys know the other one is capable of beating him on any given day. Why risk all those big pay days and legacy building straight away? If they are to fight again, it's likely to be a while down the road, after both have made their fortune and fame, and they feel the time is right to put it all on the line one more time.
it doesnt work that way big bone. pac is number 1 till he is beaten. resume pac>>>>>>>>marquez. 5 weight champ. flyweight to welterweight (7 divisions) and just beat a junior middleweight. marquez is making his own legacy but for now pac is still king.
Pac is still number one..24 rounds, JMM never scored a single KD on pac...just shows the big difference between pac and diaz
Like I said, I don't want to argue with Pac fans. But to make things clear: P4P rank is mostly based on RECENT performances vs. given opposition, and as of 2009 March 2, the debated PacMan loss, KO over lineal champ Casamayor, over the hill, KO over The Ring #1 LW Diaz is more quality, than the same close fight vs. JMM, Diaz, who wasn't in my LW top5, and DLH, who was favored and was much bigger, but very drained and totally shot. Like I said, P4P is more of a subjective list, so we shouldn't have problems with others list. But if we are getting into the actual analysis, which we shouldn't do, JMM's recent run is better. By the way, you got it wrong. In the 90s, DLH, Mosley and Jones took over the top spot without fighting each others. They did it with top quality wins, and that's what JMM did, although I don't see the experts putting him on top, with PacMan being more popular and the official result of their 2nd fight, which is PacMan by decision, no matter what you do. But PacMan has just the right fight ahead of him to become the clear no1, no matter of his current rank.
I get your point and everybody has their opinion..P4P ranking is the most difficult to make in boxing because everybody has different ways in making them.....But i think most will agree that Pac and JMM are the top dogs right now!!!:good
